Barnes has joined Joelinton and Emil Krafth as Newcastle’s injured goalkeepers, however, backup Martin Dubravka is now fully fit after recovering from an illness.

Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon were all on the bench for Sunday’s crushing of Sheffield United. This means that a number of fringe players may start Wednesday, as Howe wants to keep his team fresh.

Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne is still a long term injury absence due to a thigh issue. Mateo Kovacic and John Stones will also miss their midweek match.

Kalvin Phillips, who is currently on suspension, could start for City in midfield if Guardiola changes his starting line-up. However, 18-year old starlet Rico Lewis, and Matheus nunes, the new signing, are both capable of filling this void.

Erling Haaland, who has eight Premier League goals to his name in just six appearances, will lead the team for City, though the busy City schedule could limit the time he spends on the field, which would allow Julian Alvarez to get more playing time.
