Daily bets and recommendations have become slightly scarcer recently, as my thoughts have turned significantly towards the upcoming Cheltenham Festival, and as ever a focus on any big weekend action too.

Hopefully interest has been ticking over nicely with the introduction of the EW Lucky 15 page on the WhichBookie website, which is proving very popular, and is a good way of having a small, fun, but very profitable interest in the daily action.

On this busy Thursday however, there are a couple of races at Ffos Las that have piqued my interest, and for regular followers, you will be comfortable with my often-used tactic of backing a couple each-way in a race, as long as the price and place terms are in our favour.

The Fedwen Tentage Novices’ Handicap Hurdle at 1.52 at Ffos Las today is the first example. The early markets were heavily skewed towards those with an obvious profile and/or solid recent form figures.

Thankfully, the two that I thought were markedly overpriced in the overnight markets are still both available at juicy enough prices to recommend – not always the case, as the overnight vultures become ever more liberal.

The first is the Kerry Lee-trained Henri Le Bon, who has clearly not been easy to train but on his day could easily have a race like this 0-100 in him. His run at Warwick four weeks ago, behind the gambled-on and well-handicapped Punctuation was a very solid one – from which the form is already starting to work out, as runner-up Sainte Doctor went close at Fakenham yesterday.

At 12/1 each-way with Sky Bet or Bet365, Henri Le Bon is the first dart at the race, and with Brendan Powell on board (3 from 7 for Kerry Lee this season), he should be much shorter.

The second bet in the race is also 12/1 each-way with Sky Bet or Bet365, as they are the only bookmakers who are offering 5 places on the race. On the face of it, having had three starts in handicaps already without looking like troubling the judge, would hardly make you bet material. But Gaelic Thunder has shown more than enough on his last two starts – most notably in a strong race for the grade at Wincanton last time – to think that his turn is around the corner too.

David Noonan gets the leg up on Chris Honour’s Gaelic Thunder for the first time, and that could be notable for a horse that has the look of being very suited to the galloping nature of Ffos Las.

The other race to focus efforts on is the Cazoo Handicap hurdle at 4.07, and again features two massively overpriced horses, in my eyes.

This time, it is Sky Bet who are the most beneficial bookmakers to utilise, as they are 4 places on the race, and the first bet is the Evan Williams-trained Champagne Rhythm – ridden by daughter Isabel.

At 10/1 each-way, the fact that he was officially beaten 34 lengths last time can be used as a tool to scrape some value, as he ran much better than that behind some in-form horses, who are much better than the grade he now faces today.

Again, he is a horse that should be suited to Ffos Las, and it’s surely notable that Isabel Williams gets off a horse she won on last time, Sabbathical, in favour of Champagne Rhythm.

Last but not least, in this fabulous foursome of bets today, is Heure De Gloire, who at 11/1 each-way with Sky Bet, could also be a horse who finally has the stars align for a big run. Heure De Gloire has caught the eye on a number of occasions, running well against various track-position biases or in races with unsuitable conditions. I think quite strongly, that the 2m4f test at a track like Ffos Las could be just the ticket for him too.

There you go – four horses, two races, all double figure prices. A tactic not many will enjoy, but one that I strongly feel could pay dividends today. Good luck!
