Another day at Galway leading to more frustration as this time around, we managed to find the second placed horse who couldn’t overhaul the leader. Teed Up is certainly one to keep the right side of and if turning back up again this week, he should be looked at. However, we go again today and hope for the best.
Starting off with the opening contest of the day, this 2.00 race looks to have a good shape to it and the 2m maiden hurdle could be one to have a bet in. I quite like the look of Rexem in this race, at a big price, who comes here with race fitness on his side and a good record in bumpers to fall back on. He has not been proven yet on soft ground, which will be a slight concern, but I feel this horse is a decent type and if doing so, could be a horse to keep the right side of over flights. Given the way he was ridden in bumpers, I would be shocked to not see this horse in the front rank, and I sense it could be a day to be profitable being up with the pace. At a price of 12/1 with Bet365, he should be backed each way.
The 2.30 race is the feature jumps race on the card and the 2m7f handicap hurdle has plenty of interesting runners who look well handicapped. Ambitious Fellow is one of them, who represents an in-form team of Peter Fahey and I am adopting the approach of if I can’t beat them, join them. This horse has won two of his last three very nicely and the form of those efforts looks good in the context of this race. He steps up in trip again here, but that should be within range, and Sam Ewing has already won on him, so those are positives. At a price of 12/1 with Bet365, with 6 places available, he should be backed each way.
I am also going to take a stab in the dark on a horse at a similar price in this race also, and I’m going to side with Digby, who is looking to add another big handicap win to his name after winning a decent handicap at the Fairyhouse Easter Festival. He followed that up with a third at Ballinrobe, in a race that has worked out very well, and that went to prove his staying capabilities. This horse has not run on soft ground too many times, but he won on yielding to soft at Killarney last summer, so hopefully it should not be too much of an inconvenience. Again, I think this horse will be handy throughout this race, and that is where it could pay to be. At a price of 11/1 generally, he should also be backed each way.
