Sunderland’s run of five unbeaten games came to a sudden end last weekend against Cardiff. But the Black Cats can be confident about regaining their winning ways in their upcoming match against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday evening.
The visitors, who are fifth in the Championship table, had a disappointing result last time out, losing 1-0 at home to Cardiff, but their previous three matches were won in style. They scored eleven goals and conceded just two against Southampton, QPR and Blackburn. Their last two away matches were both won 3-1 and a similar scoreline could be possible when they make the trip to Hillsborough for their ninth league match of the season.
The Owls, who have been struggling to adjust to life in the Championship, are now four points off safety heading into gameweek 9. The Owls are bottom of the table and have collected just two points from eight league games played this season. Xisco Muñoz’s side remain winless and are in desperate need of points to kick-start their season.
After being appointed as manger in July, Xisco’s job hangs in balance already. His side conceded three goals last weekend to Swansea and the value has to be with Sunderland inflicting more misery on the hosts on Friday.
Sunderland’s No. 1 scorer, 22-year-old Jack Clarke has scored five goals this season from the left. He has also scored four of them in his last 4 appearances and has proven to be a solid bet for an anytime goalscorer.
We can’t see past another defeat for Sheff Wed. With Sunderland being excellent form currently, it would be surprising to see them take anything less than three points away from a team currently rock bottom of the Championship table without a league win to their name this season.
