WhichBookie racing analyst Andrew Blair White provides a preview and betting tips for races at Roscommon on Monday 23rd May.
The Eurovision Song Contest has been running since 1956 and has taken place every year without fail except for in 2020.
Following the qualification rounds, 26 countries from around the world battle it out in the final to take home the winners award that is decided upon by both professional juries in each country and the public vote.
Although the singing contest is taken seriously by the contestants, the voting has historically been extremely political with votes from certain countries not always going to the acts that they deem to be best. This has somewhat added to the entertainment of the competition which attracts a worldwide audience of over 180 million people annually.
Due to the extreme popularity of the contest, betting on Eurovision has become very popular with the UK public and punters worldwide. Several bookmakers take bets on the singing competition and if you’re thinking of having a bet this year, we’ve put together this Eurovision betting guide to help.

This year, the Eurovision Song Contest will take place from Tuesday 10th May to Saturday 14th May 2022.
The contest will be hosted in Turin following Italy winning the 2021 contest with the song “Zitti e buoni”, performed by Måneskin.
Two sets of semi-finals take place over the first two days before the Grand Final performances on the Saturday evening.
A total of 41 countries will participate in Eurovision 2022.
Following the two semi-finals, 26 countries will make it through to the Grand Final.
The ‘Big Five’ countries which include the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy are not required to participate in the semi-finals and will progress automatically through to the final. This is because these countries contribute the most financially towards the organisers, the European Broadcasting Union. Therefore, you can bet safely on any of these five countries knowing that they will not be eliminated before the Grand Final.

Not only do several bookmakers provide odds for Eurovision, there are also various betting markets available on the competition
Betting on the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest is by far the most popular betting market. Bets can be placed before the competition has started, during the semi-finals or before/during the Grand Final.
If you are betting on any country that is taking part in the semi-final stages, you will likely get bigger odds on them before the competition has begun as there is a chance that they may not make it through to the Grand Final.
Be sure to take a look at how many points countries have accumulated in recent Eurovisions as countries such as the UK tend to do very poorly in the competition regardless of the acts or songs that is representing the nation.
This is a very interesting betting market and one that you can often get value from. Instead of betting on the winning singer, you can also choose to bet on the coach of the winning singer.
This market can be a good choice when one coach has the majority of the contestants who are favourites to win. If it’s a two-horse race and they’re both with the same coach then it may be wiser to bet on the coach rather than the singers.
Predicting the winner of Eurovision can be quite a tricky task. With 26 acts in the Grand Final, you’ll do well to pick out the winner. Therefore, many punters prefer to place a wager on a country to finish in one of the top places. This may be in the top 3, 5 or even 10.
Points
Some betting sites may provide a points market where you can bet on how many points a country will be awarded in total. You usually bet on a range such as 5-10 points, 20-30 points, 40-50 points and so on.
This can be a fun betting category that adds to the excitement of when the points are being announced by each country.
