The correct score market is one of the most popular betting markets in football. Although they may be more difficult to predict than the winner of a match, they do generally have much higher odds and when put in a correct score accumulator, the returns can be exceptionally large with relatively small stakes.
For a correct score bet to come in, you have to correctly predict the final score of a football match. Correct score betting is also available on other sports which have a scoring system such as tennis or darts.
As well as being able to bet on the final score of an event, some bookies allow you to bet on the correct score at certain intervals such as the score at half time in a football match.
As correct scores are not that easy to predict, the majority of punters tend to stick to two or three selections when placing a correct score accumulator. These will generally have quite high combined odds but have a better chance of winning than if you were to include five or six correct scores in your acca.
When placing a correct score double, treble or any other acca, all of your score predictions must come in for your bet to win.
Correct score bets tend to have higher odds than other popular football betting markets such as the match winner as there are a lot more possible outcomes. As not all bookies offer the same odds, who you bet with can make a huge difference to your potential returns. For example, with just a £10 stake, the returns would be £30 greater betting with a bookmaker offering odds of 13/1 compared to 10/1. That’s the equivalent of being able to cover three more scores with £10 stakes!
Finding the best bookies for correct score betting is relatively easy as you should simply go with the one offering the best odds.

Another option when placing correct score multiples is to place correct score Lucky 15’s. These are bets which contain four selections and 15 separate bets of different combinations bundled into one. Lucky 15 bets contain 6 doubles, 6 singles, 4 trebles and one accumulator.
Another popular bet which relies on you correctly predicting the score are Scorecasts. These are bets where you must predict the first scorer along with the final score. Adding a first scorer into your correct score bet can give the odds a big boost and is often chosen when a team has a prominent goalscorer.
When you place a correct score bet on a football match, you are betting on the score at the end of 90 minutes, including stoppage time. If the match goes to extra time, you may be able to place a bet with some bookies on the score at the end of extra time. However, the score at the end of extra time will not apply to pre-match bets on the correct score.
Although football fans love to see a game with lots of goals, in reality, the most common football scores are those with fewer goals scored in them.
While it may be tempting to place a correct score bet of 3-2 on your favourite team as you expect to be a lively game, it’s important to keep in mind that this result only occurs 2.14% for the home team and 1.67% for the away team.
However, the final score of a football match will depend on several factors such as the teams that are playing each other, the players they have available, and also the unpredictable nature of football which makes it the greatest game in the world.
Remember Arsenal leading 4-0 at half-time against Newcastle in 2011, only for Newcastle to score four second-half goals and the game ending 4-4? That football score only happens 0.1% of the time. Or, 1 in every 1,000 football matches! Or how about when Arsenal and Newcastle went head-to-head again in December 2012, with the match ending with a score of 7-3. That’s a result at occurs 0.01% of the time, or once in every 10,000 games!
