The basic rules of video poker are relatively simple. However, as with any real-money casino game that you haven’t played before, you should always learn the rules before wagering any money. Jacks or Better is the most common variation of video poker.
The objective of the game is to make the best five-card hand possible, with a pair of Jacks or higher being the minimum requirement to win.
The rules for playing Jacks or Better are relatively straightforward.
1. Choose your stake amount (usually in coins) and click the “deal” button to start the game.
2. Five cards will be dealt to you, face-up on the screen.
3. Select the cards you want to keep by clicking on them. The remaining cards will be replaced with new ones when you click “draw.”
4. If you have a winning hand, it will be highlighted and you will be paid out accordingly.
The payouts for Jacks or Better can vary between different video poker games and casinos, but the basic pay table is as follows:
The above payouts are based on a 1 coin bet. A 2 coin bet would result in double the number of coins in the pay table.
In this variation of video poker, all of the twos (deuces) are considered wild cards, which can be used to substitute for any other card to create winning hands. This makes it easier to make strong hands, but the payouts are typically lower.
As mentioned, the payouts for winning hands when playing Deuces Wild are lower than with Jacks or Better due to the increased chances on winning. Deuces Wild also features some different winning hands such as a Deuces Royal Flush and 4 Deuces.
If you are dealt one or more twos (deuces), it’s a good idea to hold these cards as they are the most valuable of all cards given they can be used as any value.
Joker Poker uses a deck with 53 cards. A standard 52-card deck + a Joker, which is used as a wild card. It’s a combination of both Jacks or Better and Deuces Wild.
Payouts for winning hands are typically lower in Joker Poker compared to Jacks or Better because of the addition of the wild card.
Double Bonus Poker is similar to Jacks or Better, but it offers higher payouts for four of a kind hands, especially if they include aces. The payouts for other hands are typically lower than in Jacks or Better to compensate. Like Jacks or Better, Double Bonus Poker is played with a 52 card deck that contains no wild cards or jokers.
