Group C has Englands name written all over it, with some calling it a “three horse race” for second place, but before we jump to conclusions, lets delve a little deeper and take a look at the teams in more detail, uncovering their journey, key players, and our prediction for who will be the winner of Group C.

Will England finally bring it home? Well, after making it to the final in the last Euro’s against Italy after an upsetting defeat in penalties, Gareth Southgate is going to have his eyes set on the prize, and with a well rounded and experienced squad to back him up, this year could be the year. The talents in the squad include Bundesliga top goalscorer Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, and Phil Foden just to name a few. You could say that England got lucky with Group C and are predicted to dominate this group as they were unbeaten throughout the qualifiers, however, their last few games have been questionable, with a poor performance in the final qualifying game against North Macedonia, and a 1-0 loss against Brazil in a friendly. Without a win in three games and a manager often under scrutiny, it’s not all sweet sailing for England if they aren’t at their best.

Denmark

World Ranking: 21

Could the emergence of Rasmus Hojlund and a seasoned squad see them challenge England for the top spot in Group C? Well, lets put aside the fact they got knocked out of the 2022 World Cup in the first round and focus on recent performance. After an embarrassing loss against Kazakhstan early in the qualifiers, Denmark managed to turn things around with numerous wins, albeit in a rather unimpressive group. However, their last game of the qualifiers led to a disappointing 2-0 loss against Northern Island, so with Denmarks lack of consistency and underwhelming performances, we don’t see them as a threat to England.

Serbia

World Ranking: 33

Serbia showed resilience in the qualifiers earning themselves a seat at the table in this years EURO competition, and although they have some key players like Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dusan Vlahovic, it’s more resilience that will be needed for Serbia to get further in the tournament. With a mixture of wins, losses and draws during the qualifiers, Serbia’s chances of progressing will be dependant on whether they can find consistency and capitalise on their attacking strengths. However, a 4-0 friendly defeat against Russia just a couple of weeks ago, adds doubt to the capabilities of the team.

Slovenia

World Ranking: 48

Slovenia have showcased their potential after an impressive qualifying rally. They might be the underdog of Group C, but they’ve proved they are no pushover after putting up a fight against higher ranked teams. With 5 wins in their last 6 qualifying games and a 2-0 win against Portugal in a recent friendly, Slovenia are the dark horse in this competition. With players like Benjamin Sesko on the attack and Jan Oblak, Atletico Madrids keeper in front of goal, Slovenia have a decent chance at getting through Group C and making an impact in their second ever European Championship.

While the situation seems straightforward for Group C, given England’s experience, talented squad, and recent performances during the qualifiers, there is potential for upsets from Denmark, Serbia and Slovenia. But due to Denmark’s lack of consistency and underwhelming performances, we think Serbia’s elite forwards are more cause for concern, and with Slovenia’s recent performances, they could shake things up the most. However, the consistency and quality of England is by far the best in Group C, making them the likely group leaders.

England are the clear favourites with their quality and history of good performances in major competitions. Denmark could struggle to progress further in the competition due to inconsistent performances, giving Serbia the upper hand with their powerful attacking force. Slovenia on the other hand, not only have talent, but they’ve also shown consistency with numerous wins, highlighted by defeating Portugal 2-0 in March. Slovenia might be the lowest ranked in the group, but we fancy them as a dark horse, qualifying to the next stage alongside England.

Denmark, despite having a squad with potential, have struggled to leverage their key players, and the loss against Northern Ireland, a team considered much weaker, suggests they might struggle with the intensity of Group C. Serbia is a similar conclusion, boasting significant attacking talent, however, their overall performance has been erratic. While both Denmark and Serbia have talent capable of making an impact, their recent struggles places them in the bottom for our prediction.
