France enters into the EURO 2024 on the back of winning the 2022 World Cup, boasting some incredible young talents like Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe. Despite losing to Germany in a recent friendly, France won all but one game in the qualifiers with numerous clean sheets, highlighted by a 14-0 victory against Gibraltar and a 4-0 win over Netherlands. With France’s recent performances, couple with Mbappe leading the attack and experienced players like Olivier Giroud, who has  been on great form despite his age, France is in great shape to not only lead Group D, but to also contend for this years title.

Under the guidance of Ronald Koemen, the Dutch team have shown mixed results, having defeated all teams in the qualifying games, expect France, who they got mullered by 4-0 in Paris, and then lost 2-1 on their home turf. Despite these heavy losses against a prominent France, the Netherlands have certainly seen some quality in their performances, most notably in their defensive ability with Virgil van Dijkwith at the centre. They also have a decent attack with Xavi Simon in midfield and Cody Gakpo upfront alongside Wout Weghorst. The concerns remain around whether the Dutch’s attacking ability can break through defences at the highest level where they will once again, have to face off against France in Germany.

Austria secured their spot in the tournament after Mark Sabitzer scored a penalty against Azerbaijan. Austria’s run up has been nothing but spectacular, defeating the likes of Germany and smashing Turkey 6-0, showcasing their ability. This has come since Ralf Rangnick decided to divert tactics to a more attacking style of football and it seems to be paying off. Their recent form and transformation under Rangnick make them a potential dark horse, capable of challenging teams with a higher calibre and getting through to the knockout stages and potentially further than their most successful campaign at EURO 2020, when they reached the last 16.

Poland had a rather sketchy route to EURO 2024 with many challenges however, they secured their ticket through the Nations League playoffs. Poland have their work cut out in this group and will need to harness the experience they have on the field.
