Euro 2024 Group E Winner Prediction & Tips

Group E has shaped up to be an interesting mix of styles, composed of Belgium, Slovakia, Romania, and Ukraine. Belgium will be expected to lead the group whilst the rest of the teams battle it out for a chance to qualify to the next round. Belgium experienced a disappointing exit in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup, however, unbeaten since the arrival of new coach Domenico Tedesco, Belgium look like a serious contenders for this years title. With star players like Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku who scored an impressive 14 goals in the qualifiers, the team look well set to dominate Group E. Despite ageing players, Belgium possesses a mix of experience and young talents worthy of making them a formidable force.

Slovakia

Slovakia put up a good performance in the qualifiers under coach Franceso Calzona, securing their spot in this years European Championship. While they might not have the same calibre as Belgium, they do have some note worthy players like Milan Skriniar in defence and Stanislav Lobotka in midfield. With Slovakia’s recent performance and a rather lucky draw with Group E, they stand a good chance of reaching the knockout stages, which they’ve only achieved once back in 2016.

Romania

World Ranking: 46 

After failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup and EURO 2020, Romania were an unlikely arrival for this years championship, however, Romania remained unbeaten in the qualifiers having topping their group, highlighting their defensive capabilities. Led by coach Edward Iordanescu, the team have shown a lot of improvement with some spirited performances, but without a standout striker, doubt remains around their ability to break through top-tier defences.

Ukraine

As a result of the conflicts going on in their country, Ukraine were forced to play all of their qualifying games away, and with the upmost respect and inspiration, they still managed to qualify with Mykhailo Mudryk’s late goal against Iceland, sealing a 2-1 victory and a spot in this years competition. Serhiy Rebrov is the coach responsible for leading Ukraine this far, and with a solid squad featuring Mykhailo Mudryk and seasoned Oleksandr Zinchenko, Ukraine are capable of challenging top teams and could advance further than the group stage.

With Belgium expected at the top, the battle remains between Ukraine, Slovakia and Romania. Their emotional drive and momentum make Ukraine our prediction to take the second spot in Group E.

Although Romania have proven their defence solid against less intimidating teams in the qualifiers, they will likely crumble under Belgium’s formidable strikers. Belgium should comfortably claim the spot at the top with their superior squad and tactical play. Ukraine’s fighting spirit and form should see them in second, followed by Slovakia, despite a good run in the qualifiers, will likely fall to third. That leaves bottom place to Romania who might find this level of the competition too challenging with their lack of offensive threat.
