Serie A Winner | |
Top 4 Finish | Top Scorer |
AC Milan topped the Serie A title last season after a strong end to their campaign to snatch the title from local rivals Inter.
It’s set to be another close contest this year and I’ll be giving my predictions for the season ahead which include the title winner, top goalscorer and teams to finish in the top 4.
AC Milan won their first Serie A title since 2010/11 last season after Stefano Pioli’s side managed to pick up maximum points in 8 of their final 10 league games to finish their campaign on 86 points and 2 points ahead of Inter.
Milan are set to be in the mix again but 19-time league champions Inter are the bookies’ pre-season favourites @ 15/8 followed narrowly by Juventus who are priced at 2/1.
I’m not too sure Milan will be able to defend their title this year and should things have not gone their way last season, they probably wouldn’t be as short as 4/1.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who bagged 8 goals last season for Milan will be 41 this season and Olivier Giroud who netted 11 league goals will be 36. The team has also lost Franck Kessie in midfield and Rafael Leão, who won Serie A Play of the Season, has also been linked with a move away from the champions.
Therefore, it’s most likely a battle between Inter and Juventus and it is the former of the two that appeals to be most.
Juventus were disappointing last season and finished a distant 16 points adrift of the leaders. However, Paul Pogba will make his return to his old club and I’m expecting big things from centre-forward Dušan Vlahović who I rate very highly.
Inter also have a familiar face return to their squad with Romulu Lukaku returning to the club on a loan deal after being unsettled at Chelsea.
Forward Joaquín Correa has signed a permanent contract following a successful loan spell from fellow Serie A side Lazio last season and they also picked up goalkeeper André Onana from Ajax on a free transfer.
Other than that, Inter have been rather quiet in the transfer window but they’re a settled side who have been consistent in recent seasons, as shown by their top-two finishes in 2 or the last 3, and so they may feel not much needs to be changed within the squad.
It’s a tough decision but although I do think Juve will undoubtably perform better than they did last season, Inter may have the consistency needed to win their 20th league title.

Other than Inter, Juventus and Milan, who are all heavy odds-on favourites for a top 4 finish, there are a handful of teams who could break into one of the UEFA Champions League spots.
Roma (6/5), Napoli (2/1), Atalanta (9/4) and Lazio (5/1) are the main contenders and from those, I’m backing Napoli.
Centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly has left for Chelsea in a deal reportedly worth around £34m and Insigne had departed for Toronto in the MLS on a free transfer. Both those players will be big misses for Lazio but I do think that they’ll have enough to challenge for top 4.
Fenerbahce centre-back Min-jae Kim has been brought in along with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (left-winger), André Zambo Anguissa (defensive midfielder) and Mathías Olivera (left-back) to help the club match or better last season’s performances.
Napoli finished a very respectable third, 7 points adrift of the league winners and 9 points ahead of fourth-placed Juve and so I see no reason they can’t finish there or thereabouts again. They were 15 points clear of Lazio and 16 from Roma and so they look like the best bet based on the odds with Roma looking far too short considering a possible lack of places available in the top 4 with three strong favourites for the title.

Lazio’s Ciro Immobile finished last season as the top scorer in Serie A with 27 goals but it is last season’s second-top scorer who I fancy to find the net most this coming season.
Dusan Vlahovic got his season underway with Fiorentina, finding the net no less than 17 times in 21 appearances. There were several clubs interested in the Serbian during the January transfer window but it was the 36-time league champions Juventus who won the race for his signature. Vlahovic made 15 appearances for his new club throughout the second half of the season, scoring 7 goals in the process. I expect him to be further settled in the upcoming season and given his talent and the quality of those around him, he should be one of the main contenders for top scorer should he stay fit.
Odds of 4/1 aren’t the most appealing but it is a price I’d be willing to take. What is perhaps more appealing is the 100/1 price on Vlahovic being the top scorer at the 2022 World Cup. With him an Mitrovic in fine form, he’s expected to get a few goals. However, whether or not he stands a chance of grabbing the Golden Boot all depends on how long Serbia can stay in the tournament. WhichBookie footy tipster Liam Johnson has shared his World Cup predictions for all group stage matches and will continue to provide betting tips throughout the competition.
