The Traitors is a reality TV series that premiered on BBC One in November 2022. Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, the show is based on the Dutch series De Verraders and has become one of the BBC’s most successful reality shows. How Does The Traitors Work?

If you’re looking to bet on The Traitors, then it’s likely that you know how the show works. However, for all newbies to the series, here’s a brief explanation of what it’s all about…

Set in a Scottish castle, the game begins with a group of 25 contestants (20 in the celebrity version) who are secretly assigned as either a “Faithful” or a “Traitor.” The Traitors aim to eliminate Faithfuls without being detected, while the Faithful hope to identify and evict the Traitors.

Each day features missions that add money to the prize fund, which can reach up to £120,000. At night, the Traitors secretly “murder” a Faithful player, and during the day, all players participate in a Round Table discussion to vote out a suspected Traitor. If all Traitors are eliminated, the remaining Faithfuls share the prize. If any Traitors remain, they claim the entire prize pot.

New Series of The Traitors

The new season of the Celebrity Traitors begins on October 1, 2026. They’ll be competing for £100,000 to be given to a charity of their choice. Traitors Uncloaked will be returning also, as well as a show called ‘Traitor or Faithful? Claudia Decides’ in which Winkleman shows how she picks the traitors.

• Miranda Hart: Comedian and actor who created and starred in the BBC sitcom Miranda.
