A blockbuster Premier League clash at the Etihad. Manchester City are looking every bit like champions-in-waiting again, and Tottenham roll into town hoping to shake things up. City are unbeaten at home in six, scoring goals for fun. Spurs finally found some rhythm last week with a convincing 3-0 win over Burnley. So, can they make life difficult for Pep’s side, or will Haaland just keep doing Haaland things? Let’s dig in.
Pep Guardiola has a growing injury list, and it’s not pretty. Phil Foden (ankle), Rodri (knee), Ederson (ill), Mateo Kovacic (Achilles surgery), Josko Gvardiol (knock), and Savinho (knock) are all sidelined. Add to that Kalvin Phillips and a couple of squad players like Bettinelli and Wilson-Esbrand, and it’s a busy treatment room.
But here’s the thing—you’d barely notice. City still have John Stones, Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva, Jérémy Doku, and of course, Erling Haaland. That’s enough to beat almost anyone. Expect a 4-2-3-1 with James Trafford in goal, Rico Lewis at right back, and the usual slick midfield setup around Reijnders and Bernardo.
Thomas Frank doesn’t have it much easier. James Maddison is out with a cruciate ligament tear, while Dejan Kulusevski, Destiny Udogie, Manor Solomon, Bryan Gil, Dane Scarlett, Kota Takai, and Radu Drăgușin are all unavailable. That’s a lot of creativity missing.
Spurs will probably set up with a back five and look to hit City on the break. Vicario will be in goal, with Romero and Van de Ven key at the back. Richarlison—fresh from a brace last week—will be their main man up front, supported by Brennan Johnson and maybe Mohammed Kudus drifting inside.
Likely Lineups
Manchester City: Trafford; Lewis, Stones, Dias, Aït-Nouri; González, Reijnders; Bobb, Bernardo Silva, Doku; Haaland
Tottenham Hotspur: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Danso, Spence; Palhinha, Bergvall, Sarr; Kudus, Richarlison
Here’s what I think… goals are almost guaranteed. City have smashed in 22 goals in their last six games, and Haaland looks unstoppable. Spurs have been patchy on the road, failing to win any of their last six away league games. That’s not exactly encouraging.
But—Tottenham have a funny knack of frustrating City. They’ve avoided defeat in their last two league visits to the Etihad. Can they do it again? Maybe, but this version of City feels ruthless.
Betting angles worth a look:
City are going to dominate the ball. Expect 60%+ possession, plenty of chances, and Spurs sitting deep. Tottenham will try to spring counters with Richarlison and Johnson, and they might even grab one, but over the full 90 minutes City’s quality should shine through.
Match Prediction: Manchester City to win. Bet with bet365.
I’m leaning towards a 3-1 Manchester City win. Spurs are dangerous enough to score, but City at home just look too strong.
Correct Score Prediction: Manchester City 3-1 Tottenham Hotspur. Bet with bet365.
The numbers scream goals. City’s last six games have averaged over 4.5 goals, and Spurs’ leaky defence doesn’t inspire much confidence. Over 2.5 feels safe, but if you want more value, over 3.5 is worth a punt.
Over/Under Prediction: Over 3.5 Goals. Bet with bet365.
