Another big Premier League clash at Old Trafford, and it already feels like a must-win. Manchester United, under huge pressure, take on Sunderland – a side that’s full of belief after a solid start to the season.
United are wobbling after that 3-1 loss to Brentford. The mood isn’t great, and you can feel the heat on Ruben Amorim. Sunderland, on the flip side, are buzzing after their first away win of the season at Nottingham Forest. So, is this the day Old Trafford roars United back to life, or does Sunderland spring a surprise?
United have problems at the back. Diogo Dalot (muscle) and Lisandro Martínez (ACL) are both sidelined. Expect Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt to anchor the defence, while Bruno Fernandes will once again pull the strings in midfield. Benjamin Šeško should lead the line, with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha offering support.
Sunderland have a few issues too. Leo Hjelde (Achilles) and Romaine Mundle (hamstring) are out. But Régis Le Bris still has plenty of options. Granit Xhaka brings steel to midfield, and Omar Alderete – fresh off scoring against Forest – will fancy his chances again. Keep an eye on Enzo Le Fée in midfield, he’s the creative spark.

Here’s what I think… this one has goals written all over it. United can’t stop conceding (12 in their last five), but they do score plenty. Sunderland have found the net in four of their last six games. Both teams to score feels like the banker.

United should dominate possession at home. The trouble is, they’ve been so easy to play against lately. Sunderland won’t panic, they’ll sit tight, frustrate, and hit on the counter. Amorim needs three points to ease the pressure, but Sunderland’s confidence makes this tricky.
