Brentford welcome the reigning champions Manchester City to West London, and this one has that classic “can the underdogs bite back?” feel. The Bees are buzzing after a big win over Manchester United, but facing Pep Guardiola’s machine is another level entirely. City just smashed Burnley 5–1, so confidence is flowing in their camp too.
So, what should you expect on Sunday? Let’s break it down.
Brentford are in good spirits after that 3–1 victory over United, and Igor Thiago is the man to watch. He bagged two goals in that match and looks full of confidence. Mathias Jensen also found the net, and the home crowd will be hoping for more of the same.
In terms of injuries, the Bees are still without Gustavo Nunes and Paris Maghoma. That’s a blow, but their frontline has been firing, with goals in each of their last six matches. The issue? Their defence. Nine conceded in that same run shows they’re vulnerable.
Likely Brentford XI:
Kelleher; Kayode, Collins, Van den Berg, Hickey; Henderson, Yarmolyuk; Ouattara, Damsgaard, Schade; Thiago.
City don’t usually turn up to lose, do they? Pep’s side destroyed Burnley with Haaland back in business, scoring twice in stoppage time. Nunes and Foden were heavily involved too, and it’s no surprise that City created over 20 chances.
They do have a few missing faces. Omar Marmoush, Mateo Kovacic, Rayan Aït-Nouri, and Rayan Cherki are sidelined. But with the depth they’ve got, it barely dents their lineup.
Likely Man City XI:
Donnarumma; Dias, Gvardiol, O’Reilly, González; Rodri; Savinho, Nunes, Reijnders, Foden; Haaland.
Here’s an interesting stat: Brentford have actually beaten City twice since 2022. Not many teams can say that. But the overall record leans towards Pep’s men, with three wins and a draw in their last six meetings.
Their last clash ended 2–2 back in January. Brentford fought hard, Wissa and Nørgaard scored late, but Foden’s brace kept City level. Expect goals here—16 have been scored across their last six encounters, an average of nearly three per game.
Here’s what I think… there are definitely goals in this one. Brentford always look like scoring at home, but City’s attack is relentless.
Betting angles worth a look:
Brentford’s defence looks shaky, but their attack is brave enough to test Donnarumma. That makes BTTS a strong shout.
City will control the ball, press Brentford back, and create plenty. The Bees might have their moments – Thiago’s in form and Jensen can pop up with goals – but it’s tough to see them holding City off for 90 minutes.
Match Prediction: Man City to win. Bet with bet365.
I’m leaning towards Man City 3–1 Brentford. Enough firepower from Haaland, Foden, and Nunes to make the difference, but Brentford at home should still grab a goal.
Correct Score Prediction: Brentford 1–3 Man City. Bet with bet365.
The numbers point one way: goals. Brentford have scored in their last six. City have scored in every single match this season. Their last six meetings averaged almost three goals a game.
Over/Under Prediction: Over 3.5 Goals. Bet with bet365.
Here’s a Brentford vs Man City combo I like:
That’s your “sit back and enjoy the goals” bet.
Bet Builder Tip: City to Win, BTTS Yes, Haaland Anytime Scorer & Over 2.5 Goals. Bet with bet365.

Man City are favourites. Their attack looks too strong, but Brentford will put up a fight.
A 3–1 City win looks most likely.
