Plumpton is a small country jumps track in the village of the same name in East Sussex, a few miles north of Lewes and Brighton and right at the foot of the South Downs. Horses have raced here since 1884.
It's jumps only, with racing from September through to May. The track is tight, left-handed and very undulating, and the big days are the Sussex National in January and the two-day Easter Festival, which stages the Sussex Champion Hurdle and the Sussex Champion Chase.
Today's Plumpton card gives you the full field for each race, with jockey bookings, weights, each horse's last few runs and the current prices. The prices refresh through the day, so you're always looking at the live market.
If a horse is pulled out, a rider is swapped or the going is changed, the card changes with it. Fields for the next meeting are declared the day before, and the card goes up as soon as the final runners are known.
Once a race has been run, the placings, SPs and Tote dividends go in. Plumpton sits on heavy clay, so a wet spell can mean an early-morning inspection or even an abandonment, and any news like that is posted here before the first race.
Plumpton runs a jumps season from September to May, mostly on Monday afternoons, with a handful of Sunday feature days. Here are the Plumpton race dates for the 2026/27 season:

Here are some tips if you are considering betting on Plumpton racing today:
Plumpton is a left-handed oval of just over a mile, and it's one of the sharpest tracks in Britain. The bends are tight, and the ground rises and falls all the way round.
The chase course has seven fences. There's been no water jump since April 1999. The hurdles course runs on the outside of the chase course, and both share the same uphill finish.
The back straight runs downhill, so horses often pick up speed there before the turn for home. The climb from the home bend to the winning post finds out anything short of stamina.
This is jumps racing, so there's no draw to worry about. The going matters far more.
Plumpton is built on clay, and although a lot of money has gone into drainage, it can turn heavy after prolonged rain. The 2026 Sussex National meeting was abandoned in January after torrential rain. The ground is usually at its best in the autumn and spring, and the 2026 Easter Festival was run on good. Check the going report on the morning of racing.
The Sussex National is Plumpton's best-known race. First run in 2001, it's a handicap chase over 3m4½f with 20 fences to jump, and it's usually held on the first Sunday in January. The 2027 running is on Sunday 3 January.
The 2026 race was rained off in January and moved to Easter Monday instead. Havaila won it for Gary and Josh Moore, giving Caoilin Quinn a third Sussex National in a row after Dom Of Mary in 2024 and Invincible Nao in 2025.
The Easter Festival is the other big weekend. The Sussex Champion Hurdle, a two-mile handicap, is run on Easter Sunday, and Indemnity won it in 2026 at 15/2 for Emma Lavelle and Ben Jones. Diego Du Charmil, who went on to win at Grade 1 level, took it in 2021.
On Easter Monday it's the Sussex Champion Chase over 2m1f, one of the richest races of the year at the track. Secret Des Dieux won the 2026 running as the 5/2 favourite for James Owen and Jonathan Burke, beating Matterhorn and the veteran Edwardstone.
The Sussex Stayers' Handicap Hurdle on Sussex Raceday in April is another decent prize. It's often a target for the bigger stables chasing prize money late in the season.
Plumpton puts on plenty of themed days alongside the racing. Ladies Day usually opens the season, and in 2026 it moved from May to 20 September after a confirmed case of equine flu at a livery yard next to the course.
In the winter there's a Christmas Countdown Raceday and a Christmas Jumper Raceday, and the Easter Festival comes with family entertainment on both days. Several fixtures raise money for charity, including the Teenage Cancer Trust and Jamie's Farm racedays. Under-18s race free at most meetings.
Plumpton started out as a hare coursing venue, opening on 28 December 1876. The first horse racing meeting was held in 1884, and Cowslip won the opening race, a hunters' selling hurdle, ridden by Harry Escott.
Racing stopped during both world wars, resuming in 1919 and again in 1946. Isidore Kerman bought the course in 1961 and lowered the brow of the hill so racegoers could see more of the action. Peter Savill and Adrian Pratt have owned it since 1998.
Plumpton has some great stories. The Queen Mother had her first winner here in 1963, and Bob Champion rode his first ever winner here in 1968. In 1969 the course hosted the National Jazz and Blues Festival, the event that later became Reading and Leeds, with Black Sabbath and The Who on the bill.
The most famous day came on 9 February 2009, when Tony McCoy rode his 3,000th jumps winner here on Restless D'Artaix for Nicky Henderson.
Here are the leading trainers at Plumpton on recent figures:
Nicky Henderson doesn't send many, but he brought up his 100th Plumpton winner in early 2026. Gary Moore passed 200 Plumpton winners back in 2022.
Caoilin Quinn leads the jockeys with 8 winners, ahead of Freddie Gordon (6). Tom Cannon, Chris Gordon's long-time stable jockey, rode his 100th Plumpton winner in April 2025.
The course is on Plumpton Lane, Plumpton, East Sussex, BN7 3AL. Plumpton station sits at the bottom of the course, less than five minutes' walk from the north entrance, with regular trains between London Victoria and Eastbourne or Hastings.
By car, it's about eight miles from the A23 at the Pyecombe junction. Parking in the centre of the course is free, but you can only drive out between races, when there are no horses on the track or in the parade ring.
Every Plumpton meeting is shown live on Sky Sports Racing.
Most UK bookmakers also offer free live streaming of Plumpton races to customers with a funded account or a bet on the race.
Plumpton's midweek cards often have small fields, so check each-way terms before you bet. A six- or seven-runner race usually pays only two places.
Best Odds Guaranteed means you get the starting price if it's bigger than the price you took. On the big handicaps, such as the Sussex National and the Easter features, look out for bookmakers paying extra places.
There's racing today, Thursday 5 November 2026. The next meeting after that is on Monday 16 November.
The Sussex National is usually run on the first Sunday in January. In 2027, it's on Sunday 3 January.
The course is in the village of Plumpton in East Sussex, near Lewes, and Plumpton station is right next to it.
Havaila won the 2026 Sussex National for Gary and Josh Moore and Caoilin Quinn. The race was moved to Easter Monday after the January meeting was abandoned.
No. Plumpton is a jumps-only track, with racing from September to May.
Plumpton racing is shown live on Sky Sports Racing, and many bookmakers stream the races too.
