Friday night football in East London. West Ham United host Chelsea at the London Stadium in a clash that feels like it could go either way. West Ham are desperate for a spark after a rough start, while Chelsea arrive with momentum and a solid run of form.
So, who comes out on top under the lights? Let’s take a closer look.
West Ham head into this one with almost a full squad available. The only big miss is Crysencio Summerville (thigh injury). That leaves Graham Potter with plenty of options, and we could see a 3-4-1-2 system featuring Jarrod Bowen and Niclas Füllkrug leading the line. The big question is whether the Hammers’ defence can finally tighten up after conceding 10 goals in their last six games.
Chelsea also have a couple of absentees. Benoît Badiashile (muscle injury) and Levi Colwill (knee ligament) remain sidelined. Enzo Maresca is expected to stick with his 4-2-3-1 shape. João Pedro should start up front, with Cole Palmer and Pedro Neto supporting from behind. Defensively, Chelsea have looked rock solid – only two goals conceded in their last six matches.
Likely Lineups
West Ham: Hermansen; Todibo, Aguerd, Kilman; Wan-Bissaka, Ward-Prowse, Rodríguez, Hadji Malick; Paquetá; Bowen, Füllkrug
Chelsea: Sanchez; James, Acheampong, Chalobah, Cucurella; Caicedo, Enzo Fernández; Neto, Palmer, Bynoe-Gittens; João Pedro
Here’s what I think… this is going to be cagey. Chelsea are the form side, unbeaten in six, while West Ham can’t buy a win at home right now. That usually points in one direction.
But, football’s not always that simple. Bowen and Paquetá can cause problems, especially if West Ham nick the first goal. Still, Chelsea’s defence looks so well-drilled at the moment that it’s hard to see them being breached more than once.
Some betting angles worth looking at:
Chelsea are likely to dominate possession, push West Ham deep, and wait for their moment. The Hammers will scrap, as they always do, but recent history doesn’t lie: they haven’t beaten Chelsea in their last three league meetings.
If Chelsea keep their cool and play with the same sharpness they’ve shown in recent weeks, they should edge this. West Ham will rely on Bowen to spark something, but against this Chelsea backline, chances will be rare.
Match Prediction: Chelsea to win. Bet with bet365.
I’m leaning towards a narrow Chelsea victory here. Their defense is just too strong right now, and West Ham are struggling in front of goal.
Correct Score Prediction: Liverpool 3-1 Bournemouth. Bet with bet365.
The numbers point towards a tight game. West Ham have scored just six goals in their last six against Chelsea, while the Blues have kept four clean sheets in that span. Chelsea also aren’t blowing teams away – they prefer control and efficiency.
That makes under 2.5 goals the safe play.
Over/Under Prediction: Under 2.5 Goals. Bet with bet365.
Here’s a combo that fits how I see this playing out:
That’s your Friday night grind special.
