PSV Eindhoven
Willem IIPSV Eindhoven go into this one carrying a point of frustration. Third place and four points off Feyenoord after being held at home last Sunday, Peter Bosz will know that a dropped game here would be unthinkable. The reigning champions are expected to put a sorry Willem II side to the sword, and on paper, this has routine home win written all over it.
For Willem II, this is about as brutal a fixture as the Eredivisie can serve up. Bottom of the table, no league win from their first ten games, a goal difference of minus 22, and now walking into the Philips Stadion with a manager who was only appointed on Wednesday evening. Jurgen Streppel has had less than three days to get his ideas across to a squad in freefall. The damage limitation job starts here.
This Eredivisie fixture takes place at the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven, one of the most intimidating venues in Dutch football. PSV are hosting a side rooted to the foot of the table, and the expectation around the ground will be nothing short of a convincing home win. Willem II make the trip from Tilburg knowing they need to stop the rot quickly, or their season risks becoming a write off before November is out.
PSV are carrying a few notable absences but still have more than enough quality to deal with a side this short of confidence. Willem II meanwhile arrive in chaos, with fresh disciplinary problems adding to an already stretched squad.
Bosz has a selection headache upfront with several attacking options still unavailable, but the return of Mijnans gives him more flexibility in the middle of the park. Guus Til has been carrying PSV going forward and after heading the Porto trip, he should start again despite the knock he took at ADO a few weeks ago. Van Bommel gets another chance to stake his claim after starting against Feyenoord.
PSV expected XI: Kovar; Dest, Obispo, Geertruida, Kostic; Mauro Junior, Sano; Perisic, Til, Van Bommel; Mijnans
Streppel has barely had time to learn the names on the teamsheet, let alone reshape the structure. Expect a fairly familiar lineup to what we saw against Cambuur, with Tonny Vilhena and Uriel van Aalst providing what little attacking threat Willem II can muster. Haen, who scored that wonderful overhead kick against Helmond, will be hoping to provide something out of nothing up top.
Willem II expected XI: Didillon Hodl; Ter Avest, Stam, Dekker, Tjoe A On; Twigt, Vilhena; Zarrouk, Van Aalst, Van Crooij; Haen
PSV have been largely impressive this season even if a couple of results have raised eyebrows. The 2-1 loss at newly promoted ADO Den Haag in October was a genuine shock, the kind of slip that cost them ground at the top of the table. But they bounced back with real character, winning 1-0 at FC Porto in the Champions League thanks to Guus Til’s 57th minute volley, which showed exactly the kind of mental strength you need over a long season. The draw with Feyenoord last Sunday was frustrating but not entirely without merit. Bosz felt his side deserved more, and looking at the chances created, he has a point. Obispo hit the post, Geertruida had a goal chalked off, and they went ahead through Til before being pegged back just after the hour. Over the campaign, six wins from ten league games and 28 goals scored tells you this is a side built to attack.
Willem II’s form is simply catastrophic. Eight defeats from ten league games, 32 goals conceded, and they have now burned through two managers before the end of October. The 6-1 home thrashing by Cambuur last Friday was the low point, with the promoted visitors 3-0 up inside 18 minutes. That came after a 3-2 defeat at Sparta Rotterdam and a 3-1 loss at FC Utrecht. The cup win over second tier Helmond Sport on Tuesday provided a sliver of relief, with Haen’s overhead kick a highlight, but they still had a player sent off when leading 4-2. There is no coherent defensive shape here. There is no clear identity. There is just a group of players desperately short of confidence walking into one of Dutch football’s most demanding atmospheres.
The history between these two clubs has generally been dominated by PSV, though Willem II have shown they can occasionally spring a surprise. Their last league win over PSV came back in September 2021, a 2-1 victory in Tilburg, but since then they have taken just one point from three meetings. Perhaps more relevant is what happened at the Philips Stadion in February 2025, when PSV were held 1-1 at home, with Noa Lang’s goal cancelled out by Mickael Tirpan late on. That result will be filed away in Willem II’s memory as evidence that it is not always impossible, but the circumstances surrounding that game were entirely different to what we are looking at now.
There are very few fixtures in European football right now that set up as cleanly as this one for a big home win. PSV are a team built around goals, their front line regularly runs opposition defences ragged, and Willem II are statistically the worst defensive unit in the Eredivisie. Streppel arriving on Wednesday night with barely 72 hours to work with the group makes it even harder to see how the visitors keep this respectable. The value is in going big on PSV and on goals.
Over 3.5 goals looks like a very straightforward call here. PSV average nearly three league goals per game at home and Willem II average over three conceded per game on the road. With the visitors unable to shore up defensively in the space of a few training sessions under a brand new manager, the Philips Stadion could be a very uncomfortable place for the Tilburg side on Saturday afternoon.
PSV 3-0 Willem II is the call. The numbers back it up overwhelmingly. PSV’s attacking output combined with Willem II’s inability to keep clean sheets or create enough at the other end points firmly toward a comfortable home win without reply. Bosz will want a statement result going into the Club Brugge Champions League trip midweek.
Willem II have been susceptible to picking up cards when under pressure, as Slory’s red card against Helmond showed even in a cup game they were winning. When a disorganised backline is chasing shadows against a sharp PSV attack, late challenges and frustrated fouls tend to follow. Back over 3.5 cards in this one, with Willem II players likely to give away several bookings trying to contain the home side.
PSV dominate possession at home and consistently push opponents back into their own half for long periods. Against a Willem II side that will almost certainly sit deep and try to soak up pressure, the volume of PSV attacks cutting across the face of goal will generate corners at a high rate. Over 9.5 corners is a reasonable target, with PSV likely to claim the vast majority of them.
| Market | Selection |

| Match Result | PSV Eindhoven to Win |
| Total Goals | Over 3.5 Goals |
| Total Cards | Over 3.5 Cards |
A dominant PSV win almost always comes with high goal volume against Willem II and the pressure they will be put under makes bookings for the visitors a near certainty as the game wears on.
PSV Eindhoven 3-0 Willem II. This is about as straightforward a prediction as you will find in Dutch football this weekend. Bosz has a point to prove after slipping four behind Feyenoord, his forward line is starting to click with Til in top form, and Willem II are walking into this fixture in complete disarray. A new manager with three days preparation, key players missing, and the worst defensive record in the Eredivisie. The Philips Stadion crowd will expect a show, and PSV should deliver one.
The only caveat is the Champions League trip to Club Brugge coming up midweek, which might tempt Bosz to rotate once the game is safe. But even a rotated PSV should be too strong for this Willem II side. Back the hosts to win comfortably and back the goals to flow from the first whistle.
