Getafe
SevillaThere is something almost inevitable about a game like this one. Sevilla rolling into the Coliseum Alfonso Perez with genuine momentum, a team that looks like it is finally clicking after years of underperforming, up against a Getafe side that cannot buy a goal and is scrapping around in the relegation zone. On paper it reads as a mismatch, but you know how it is with Getafe. Jose Bordalas builds teams that are hard to beat, hard to like, and almost impossible to play against when the planets align. The question is whether this version of his squad has enough about them to make life difficult for a Sevilla team full of confidence.
Seventeen points from ten games puts Sevilla in genuine European contention. Nine points from ten puts Getafe one place and one point above the bottom three. The contrast in trajectories makes this genuinely interesting, not because a Sevilla win would be a shock, but because of what it might mean for both clubs as the season develops.
This La Liga fixture takes place at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez in Getafe, Madrid. It is the home side’s eleventh league outing of the 2026 to 27 campaign and a crucial one for a team that desperately needs points to drag themselves clear of the drop zone.
Getafe are carrying some significant absences into this one, and the timing could hardly be worse given the quality of opponent they are facing.
Sevilla are in much better shape heading into this one. Marcao and Miguel Sierra are both out injured, but beyond that Luis Garcia Plaza has a fairly full squad to pick from. Isaac Romero leads the line as the club’s top scorer this season, and Youssouf Fofana, on loan from AC Milan, continues to impress in the middle of the park.
Bordalas will shuffle his pack after the Copa del Rey run out in midweek, but the system will not change drastically. Djene returning gives him options at the back, and you would expect the manager to set up compact and disciplined as always, asking his wide players to track back and making Sevilla work for every inch of space.
Getafe expected lineup: Soria; Femenia, Carvajal, Gudelj, Abqar, Davinchi; Terrats, Francho, Djene, Satriano; Azon
For Sevilla, Garcia Plaza will likely keep faith with the side that dismantled Osasuna before the cup win. Fofana in the middle provides the energy and quality, Romero leads the attack, and the full backs offer width and delivery. Sevilla expected lineup: Vlachodimos; Iglesias Sanchez, Castrin, Salas, Suazo; Ejuke, Fofana, Agoume, Correia; Stassin; Romero
Sevilla look like a side that has rediscovered its identity. Back to back wins in the league and cup, a 2-0 victory over Osasuna followed by a 3-0 cup win over Hortaleza, and the performances have had a confidence to them that has been missing from this club for a while. Five league wins and just three defeats tells you they are not just picking up results against weak opposition either. They are competing consistently.
Getafe’s form in La Liga is a different story entirely. Two wins, three draws, five defeats and only five goals scored in ten matches. That last stat is the one that really stands out. Five goals is the worst attacking return in the entire division. They went down 4-0 at Athletic Bilbao before beating Lebrijana in the cup, which at least showed some character, but a third tier cup win is not the confidence boost you can rely on heading into a home league game against sixth place opposition.
The last time Getafe won a league game was back on September 20, a 1-0 win over Malaga. That is over a month without a league victory, and in that time they have barely threatened most opponents. Bordalas is one of the best defensive coaches in Spain but even he cannot paper over cracks forever when the team ahead of the back four is not functioning.
Across 48 meetings in all competitions, Sevilla lead the head to head record with 16 wins to Getafe’s 24, with eight draws thrown in. However, the more recent picture tells a slightly different story in Sevilla’s favour. They have won four of the last six clashes between the two sides, and while last season saw both teams win their away fixture, with Sevilla winning 1-0 in Madrid and Getafe taking a 2-1 result at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, Sevilla’s overall dominance in recent years is notable.
Historically Getafe have caused problems for visiting sides at the Coliseum, particularly under Bordalas, where the compact shape and physical pressure have tripped up better teams. But with the current Getafe side looking toothless in front of goal, the usual threat levels feel diminished.
Everything points towards a Sevilla win here. The form is there, the squad depth is there, and crucially they are facing a side that simply cannot score. Getafe will make it ugly, they always do, but ugly and functional are two different things and this Getafe team is struggling to be functional. The smart money is on Sevilla doing enough to get the three points, likely without conceding.
Getafe’s attacking record is so poor that it is very hard to see this one producing a flood of goals. Sevilla are not free scoring either, they are effective rather than expansive. Under 2.5 goals looks the sensible call here, with the game likely to be decided by a single goal or two at most.
With Getafe managing only five league goals all season and multiple attackers missing, the confidence in both teams finding the net is low. Sevilla have the defensive organisation to keep things tight at the back. No to BTTS is the pick, with Getafe looking unlikely to trouble Vlachodimos.
Getafe under Bordalas are never shy in the tackle, and when they are under the cosh and chasing the game they tend to get even more physical. Sevilla are unlikely to sit back and let them have it easy. Expect cards to come, particularly from the home side as frustration mounts. Over 3.5 cards in this one would not surprise at all.
Sevilla will have the majority of possession and will be getting into crossing positions regularly. Getafe will defend deep and look to frustrate, which naturally invites corner situations. Over 8.5 corners across the ninety minutes looks fair given how this game is likely to be set up tactically, with Sevilla pressing and Getafe defending in numbers.
| Market | Selection |
|---|---|
| Match Result | Sevilla to Win |
| Both Teams To Score | No |
| Total Corners | Over 8.5 |
Sevilla winning without conceding fits perfectly with a high corners count as they push for goals against a deep sitting Getafe backline.
Sevilla have the quality, the form and the motivation to make it three wins on the bounce. Getafe will be organised as always, but without a consistent goal threat and missing key players through suspension and injury, they are going to struggle to do anything more than frustrate for periods of the game. Once Sevilla find a way through, which their attacking quality suggests they will, it is hard to see Getafe finding an equaliser.
Predicted score: Getafe 0-2 Sevilla.
