Who do you think will win?

There is something quietly fascinating about this fixture. Ipswich Town are a side still finding their feet in the Premier League, capable of scoring goals and creating problems for decent opposition at Portman Road, but inconsistent enough that you never quite know which version of them is going to show up. And then there is Bournemouth, who have quietly become one of the most watchable teams in English football right now, winning seven on the bounce across three competitions and playing with a swagger that nobody really saw coming when the season started. Gary O’Neil against one of his former clubs adds a bit of spice too. This is not a nothing game. There are narratives here, and the football is likely to be open and entertaining.

Ipswich need a result badly. They are sitting in 14th and staring nervously at the bottom three, while Bournemouth are up in eighth and flying. The gap in momentum between these two sides is significant, but Portman Road has already proven to be a difficult place to visit this season, and that counts for something.

Ipswich Town vs Bournemouth Match Details

This Premier League fixture takes place at Portman Road in Ipswich, with the home side hoping to use their familiar surroundings to their advantage against a Bournemouth outfit who have only managed one away win in the league in their last four road trips. Despite that, the Cherries arrive as the form side in this matchup by some considerable distance.

Team News

Both squads are carrying a few concerns heading into this one, though neither manager is dealing with a full blown injury crisis.

  • Sasa Lukic looks set to return for Ipswich after recovering from a groin issue that kept him out for the past week or so, which is a boost for O’Neil in midfield.
  • Emersonn has not scored in five games but is expected to keep his place ahead of Zian Flemming.
  • Azor Matusiwa, Daizen Maeda and Jack Clarke are all options from the bench if O’Neil needs to change things up in midfield or the final third.
  • For Bournemouth, Marco Rose rotated heavily for Thursday’s Europa League trip to Sparta Prague, so the expectation is that his strongest available side comes back in here.
  • Alex Scott has returned to training after a thigh injury but whether Rose risks him in this one is a genuine question mark.

Predicted Lineups

O’Neil looks set to stick with the XI that has largely been his go to this season. Walton starts in goal, with Ouattara, O’Shea, Diop and Davis making up the back four. Luis and Palacios should anchor the middle of the park, with Fatawu, Enciso and Philogene operating in the more advanced positions behind Emersonn up top. It is a team with real attacking quality on paper, even if they have been inconsistent in translating that into wins.

Rose is expected to bring back almost every member of the side that beat Leeds before the Europa League rotation. Petrovic returns in goal. Smith, Silva, Hill and Truffert form the defensive unit. Christie and Adams sit in midfield. And then Rayan, Kluivert and Tavernier support Evanilson in attack. When you look at that forward line, you understand why Bournemouth have been scoring for fun.

Recent Form

Ipswich come into this having not won in their last three Premier League outings. The 3-2 defeat at Manchester City is forgivable, but dropping points at home to Nottingham Forest and then drawing with Hull City in the same run is the kind of inconsistency that leaves a manager frustrated. The encouraging bit is that they came from behind to earn draws in both of those games, which at least tells you this squad has fight and character. With 14 goals scored in the Premier League this season, they share the fourth best attacking return in the division, which is a genuinely impressive stat for a side in the bottom half of the table.

At home specifically, Ipswich have been decent. Their only defeat at Portman Road this season came against Liverpool, and they have picked up five points from their other home matches against Sunderland, Fulham and Nottingham Forest. That home record is a real asset, and O’Neil will be leaning on it heavily when he talks to his players before this one.

Bournemouth, on the other hand, are absolutely purring right now. Since a 5-1 hiding at Chelsea in October, they have reeled off seven straight victories, scoring 19 goals in the process. In the Premier League alone, they have beaten Sunderland, Manchester United and Leeds in consecutive fixtures. The only goal they have conceded during this entire run came in the 3-1 win at Sparta Prague on Thursday. The fact that they even managed to come through that Europa League away fixture without being overrun, given the squad rotation involved, tells you a lot about the depth and organisation Rose has built. Their only away win in four Premier League road trips remains the one at Old Trafford, which is worth flagging, but Bournemouth are not exactly a side you back against right now regardless of venue.

Head-to-Head Record

Historically these two clubs have not met often at the top level, so the head to head record is relatively thin when it comes to Premier League encounters. What we do know is that Bournemouth have shown an ability to win at grounds that are considered difficult, and their current form makes it hard to read too much into historical patterns that pre-date either manager or most of the current playing squads. The meetings between these sides in recent seasons have tended to be relatively open affairs, which fits with what both of these teams are bringing to the table right now.

Key Stats

  • Bournemouth have scored 19 goals in their last seven matches across all competitions, an average of well over two per game.
  • Ipswich have the joint fourth best attacking record in the Premier League this season with 14 goals, but have failed to win in three straight league outings.
  • Bournemouth have conceded just one goal in their last seven games combined, suggesting their defensive organisation is as impressive as their attacking output.

Ipswich Town vs Bournemouth Betting Tips

Bournemouth in this form are simply hard to bet against, even on the road. Ipswich have genuine attacking quality and their home record adds a layer of credibility to any argument for the hosts, but the sheer momentum, goals and defensive solidity that Bournemouth are carrying into this fixture point in one direction. The angle here is backing the Cherries to win, with goals on both sides a real possibility given Ipswich’s willingness to stay in games and fight back.

Correct Score Prediction

Bournemouth have the firepower to hurt Ipswich, but the hosts are capable of getting themselves on the scoresheet given their attacking numbers this season. A 1-3 Bournemouth win feels like the most likely outcome, with Evanilson and company doing enough damage to secure another three points on the road despite Ipswich threatening at the other end.

Cards Prediction

This has the ingredients for a feisty midfield battle. Ipswich will need to work hard defensively against a Bournemouth attack that has been relentless, and that kind of pressure tends to lead to cynical fouls and yellow cards accumulating. Back over three and a half cards in this one as a reasonable shout, with the midfield area likely to be the flashpoint.

Corners Prediction

Bournemouth get forward in numbers and attack in waves, while Ipswich will push to stay in the game if they fall behind. That combination tends to produce a lot of wide play and delivery into the box from wide areas. Over nine and a half corners looks a solid play here given the attacking intentions of both sides.

Both Teams To Score (BTTS) Prediction

Yes. Ipswich have shown all season that they can score, and they have already come from behind in multiple games this term. Bournemouth have conceded just once in seven games, but Portman Road gives the hosts a platform, and their joint fourth best attacking return in the Premier League is not something you ignore. BTTS looks like it has strong value in this fixture.

Bet Builder Tip

Market Selection
Match Result Bournemouth to Win
Both Teams to Score Yes
Total Corners Over 9.5

Bournemouth winning while both sides score fits perfectly with the attacking quality on show and Ipswich’s tendency to stay in games, while the corners line sits comfortably above average given how both teams play.

Final Match Prediction

Ipswich will not roll over here. They are at home, they can score, and they have the character to stay competitive. But Bournemouth are simply a team in the kind of form that is very difficult to stop regardless of where they are playing. Seven straight wins, 19 goals, one conceded. That is not luck, that is a system working and a squad that is fully bought in to what Marco Rose is building.

O’Neil will have his team organised and motivated, but backing against Bournemouth right now feels like the wrong call. Ipswich Town 1-3 Bournemouth is the prediction, with the Cherries making it eight in a row and continuing their push towards the European spots.
