The Premier League Golden Boot is one of the most heavily backed individual markets in British sport. The 2026/27 edition has a lot of big names on the list, with one clear favourite.

Erling Haaland is unsurprisingly the short-priced favourite to win the award for the fourth time. However, the list of contenders has been growing and gives each-way punters something to think about.

This preview breaks down the 2026/27 Premier League top goalscorer odds, outlines angles that sharp bettors are considering, scouts the leading contenders, and provides our headline tips.

Premier League Top Goalscorer Betting Tips 2026/27

Before backing a specific name, we wanted to explain how the Golden Boot is actually won and some guiding principles to keep in mind:

  • Penalties are key: Golden Boots are frequently decided by a handful of goals and a nailed-on penalty taker banking a few goals from the penalty spot can put them ahead of the competition.
  • Volume of chances is important: The award usually goes to a striker in a high-scoring side that creates plenty of chances. Efficient finishers aren’t rewarded as much. A forward on a team that will score 70+ goals in a season will have a good starting edge over an equally gifted player at a mid-table team.
  • Consider fitness and minutes: You can’t foresee the treatment table, so the market’s best value often lies with a proven scorer coming off an injury-hit campaign, as bookmakers price in the doubt. However, it’s also a risk, as availability is the most important variable in this market.
  • Hunt value: A short price for winning returns very little, so there is also an edge in finding a well-reasoned selection at a bigger number. Each-way can be your friend here, with most bookmakers paying out 4 places at ¼ odds.
  • Watch the fixture load and rotation: Clubs in the Champions League play more games and rotate their forwards more heavily, which can cost a striker league minutes, while a contender with few European distractions can be left on the pitch to chase goals.

The Contenders at a Glance

Haaland is the current runaway favourite, with Alexander Isak and the rest of the chasing pack. Here’s a quick look at the main contenders:

  • Erling Haaland (4/6): The three-time winner and reigning Golden Boot holder is the clear favourite. His four Premier League seasons have produced 36, 27, 22, and 27 league goals, the first of those being a record-breaking haul. He was five clear of his nearest rival last season and returns from the World Cup in tremendous form, having scored seven times in the competition for Norway. He takes penalties, plays in the division’s most chance-heavy attack and is remarkably injury-free. The only argument is the price, as you’re paying a premium for near certainty.
  • Alexander Isak (10/1): The most interesting name on the board, Isak arrived at Liverpool on a British-record £125 million deal after a messy summer standoff with Newcastle. His first few months at Anfield were disrupted by injury. He’s now fully fit and is ready to show that he’s a well-rounded centre-forward who can lead the line for Liverpool. He’s quick, two-footed, and clinical, and is one of the few forwards who has the potential to challenge Haaland over 38 games, but only if he stays injury-free.
  • Igor Thiago (14/1): Last season’s breakout star, he ran Haaland closest, scoring 22 goals for Brentford, then finishing runner-up in the Golden Boot competition. Service is the main concern, as Brentford have lost some attacking pieces like Reiss Nelson and Frank Onyeka. A striker at a mid-table team also needs to be exceptionally efficient to top the charts.
  • Joao Pedro (16/1): Chelsea’s Brazilian star caught the eye last season with 15 non-penalty goals. He could kick on under Xabi Alonso’s structure and he’ll also have a chip on his shoulder after being left out of Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for the World Cup. He’s a physical presence in a young and talented attack. Pedro is one of the bigger-priced each-way plays if you think Chelsea’s front line will click.
  • Viktor Gyokeres (20/1): Arsenal’s marquee striker had a solid first season in 2025/26, contributing 14 league goals on the way to Arsenal claiming the title. He’s bedded in nicely and is now a key part of the team that hasn’t added too much attacking talent during the offseason.
  • Ollie Watkins (28/1): Watkins is still a reliable 15-20 goal man for Aston Villa, but rarely reaches the tallies to win outright. He’ll also be spread thin between European football and the Premier League due to the lack of squad depth. There’s also speculation linking him to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal to replace Karim Benzema.

Our Golden Boot Prediction 2026/27

Alexander Isak is our headline selection to win the 2026/27 Premier League Golden Boot for an each-way bet. Isak is the most credible name on the board after Haaland. He’s got a good pedigree, scoring 21 and 23 goals for Newcastle in the two seasons before joining Liverpool.

His first season at Anfield was blighted by the transfer saga that meant he only joined in early September 2025 and his injury troubles led to only 14 appearances in the league. That disruption is why he’s priced around 10/1, as bookmakers are sceptical whether Isak can put together a string of games.

Liverpool, under new boss Andoni Iraola, is likely to create a high volume of high-quality chances. Isak’s pace to get in behind and being comfortable on both feet make him the ideal candidate to convert chances.

He performed well in pre-season, getting a string of matches to bed in under the new manager’s system. The departure of Mo Salah also allows him to step into the role as the main scoring threat, being the focal point. If he inherits the penalty duties, that will also boost his chances.

Haaland’s dominance is real, but Golden Boots aren’t usually runaway competitions. Five of the last 10 were decided by no more than 3 goals, with three being shared. All it takes is a Haaland niggle, a City rotation policy, or teething issues under Pep Guardiola’s replacement Enzo Maresca for the chasing pack to see a gap.

Isak’s fitness is the main concern, as missing another two-month period will be disastrous. Liverpool’s European commitments could also cost him minutes. That’s why we’d take him in each-way terms and not back him outright. The 10/1 price justifies this approach.

Our Each-Way Longshot Tip

Viktor Gyokeres at 20/1 is our value pick. He’s no longer the unknown quantity he was 12 months ago and he heads into the 2026/27 season as a title-winning Arsenal striker and has one Premier League season. He’s no longer a continental import with question marks over whether he can adapt to the rigours of the Premiership.

His debut season saw the Swede chip in with 21 goals across all competitions, including 14 league goals. He was a key part of the team’s first title in over two decades. He’s proven that he can score in England while under pressure.

A striker’s second season in a settled system is often more productive, as he’s built relationships with players around him like Saka, Havertz, Odegaard, and Zubimendi.

Arsenal are favourites to top the table again and Gyokeres will get enough chances that will make him a worthy Golden Boot contender. He has reportedly been looking very good physically during the pre-season, although there has been interest from Barcelona. While Gyokeres winning the Golden Boot outright doesn’t look too likely, he’s the standout bigger price on the board.

Recent history shows Haaland’s dominance in the Golden Boot rankings and the lack of any big outsider claiming the title for themselves.

One of the clear trends is that the winning total has been in the low to mid-20s in recent seasons. A challenger therefore doesn’t need to be superhuman, as hitting 25+ goals could be enough depending on the year.

The award is also more open than the favourite’s price suggests, with the Boot being shared twice over the past decade and 33/1 shot Jamie Vardy winning it in 2019/20.
