Semifinal day in Singapore and we are down to the final four. It has been a genuinely competitive week at the WTA Singapore event, with some unexpected names still standing as the tournament reaches its business end. Both matches today are fascinating for different reasons, and the final berths are very much up for grabs.

Tatiana Prozorova vs Talia Gibson

These two have not met before on tour, so there is no head to head record to lean on. What we do know is that Prozorova has been absolutely stunning this week. Ranked well outside the top 100, the Russian has put together some career defining wins to reach the last four, playing a brand of aggressive baseline tennis that has clearly caught her opponents off guard. She has been willing to take the ball early and dictate, and for stretches of each match she has looked completely in control.

The problem she faces now is Talia Gibson, who brings a very similar toolkit. The Australian is a heavy hitter who loves to seize control from the back of the court and she does it with a higher ceiling of consistency than Prozorova has shown across her career to this point. When two big baseline players meet, the margin comes down to who can sustain the pressure for longer, and Gibson has the pedigree to do exactly that. Prozorova has been brilliant this week but Gibson should be able to out muscle her in a straight sets win.

Leylah Fernandez vs Maja Chwalinska

Another first meeting between the two players, and this one is a genuinely intriguing stylistic contest. Fernandez is the counterpunching specialist, someone who reads the game exceptionally well and makes opponents work for every point. Chwalinska is a completely different animal, an all court scrambler who generates enormous variety through her spin and ball placement, capable of completely disrupting an opponent’s rhythm and making the match feel chaotic.

Chwalinska has had a remarkable 2026, reaching the French Open final earlier in the season, and she has shown here in Singapore that she can put together a consistent week when everything clicks. But Fernandez is well suited to this surface and comes into this match having already delivered a season best quarterfinal performance. She is the kind of player who tends to raise her level when the stakes go up, and if she can stay composed and resist the temptation to force things when Chwalinska starts throwing in her defensive tricks, she has enough in her game to control the match.

This will not be comfortable, and Chwalinska will absolutely have her moments across the match. Expect it to go the distance. But Fernandez should ultimately have just enough quality and surface comfort to edge through and book her place in the final.
