Brighton, after securing impressive back-to-back Premier League wins in September against Newcastle United and Manchester United, have found themselves in a rough patch. Their debut Europa League campaign has presented additional challenges for Brighton, currently perched at the bottom of Group B with only one point from their opening two matches. To boost their chances of securing a top-two spot, they must clinch a victory against Ajax, a team that has four points in the group.
One glaring concern for Brighton is their defensive frailty, as they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their 12 fixtures this season, both home and away. The ability to score goals has not been a problem for them, as they’ve netted in each of their last 13 home games in all competitions.

Ajax, on the other hand, find themselves in an even more dire situation. They are experiencing one of their toughest starts to a season in recent history, failing to win in eight consecutive competitive games. Maurice Steijn, the head coach, left the club by mutual consent, and Ajax now sit second-bottom in the Eredivisie table. Assistant coach Hedwiges Maduro has stepped in as the interim coach but faces a challenging schedule ahead, including a tough clash with league leaders PSV Eindhoven.
Ajax have struggled against English teams in recent years but have an unbeaten run in the group stage of the Europa League, having not lost any of their previous 11 group matches.
Brighton faced a double injury blow in their recent match against Manchester City, with Danny Welbeck and Solly March picking up injuries.
