Open de France Preview

Last week: Our 45/1 pick Ryan Fox placed for us with a tie for sixth at the BMW PGA Championship, a tidy each-way return at Wentworth. On to Paris.

The DP World Tour’s Back 9 swing rolls straight on from Wentworth to the outskirts of Paris, as the FedEx Open de France returns to Le Golf National from 24-27 September.

Continental Europe’s oldest national open is back on the famous Albatros course after a year away, and the 108th edition promises a stern, strategic test on one of the sport’s most recognisable layouts.

Michael Kim defends the title he won on his debut in 2025, though that victory came at Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche while the Albatros was renovated.

This week, the field, featuring Ryder Cup names alongside a clutch of players fresh off the BMW PGA Championship, tackles the Grand Paris-era Albatros for the first time.

With big-field each-way terms available, our tipster has three selections to follow.

Notable Former Winners

The Open de France dates back to 1906 and its honour roll spans generations of European greats. In the modern era at Le Golf National, the Albatros has crowned a mix of marquee names and value winners.

Recent Le Golf National winners: Guido Migliozzi took the 2022 edition at 16 under, and Dan Bradbury won the most recent staging here in 2024, also at 16 under, which is a reminder that a bigger-priced player who keeps the ball in play can absolutely contend around the Albatros.

The Course – Le Golf National (Albatros)

Best known as the venue for Europe’s emphatic 2018 Ryder Cup win, the Albatros is a modern, stadium-style par 71 built for drama.

Water threatens down the closing stretch, most famously on the 15th, 16th and 18th, and the layout has been lightly reworked around holes four, five and six following the Grand Paris metro works, giving even the course specialists something fresh to solve.

This is a track that punishes wayward driving and rewards discipline. Accuracy off the tee, sharp iron play into firm greens and the patience to take your medicine rather than force the issue are the qualities that tend to prevail.

It is less about raw length and far more about positioning and nerve, particularly over the water-lined finish.

The Angle

With the Albatros placing such a premium on precision and course management, we want accurate ball-strikers who won’t beat themselves, the profile that has always travelled well to Le Golf National.

Recent form is worth leaning on too, given several of the field arrive straight from a demanding Wentworth week.

History shows the winner here doesn’t have to come from the very top of the market, so we’ve paired a proven, in-form class act with two players carrying genuine momentum, including one who was in the frame at the flagship just days ago.

With seven places available on two of the three, the value plays make plenty of each-way sense.

The Selections

Matt Fitzpatrick – 10/1

The 2022 US Open champion arrives in excellent nick after a tie for sixth at the BMW PGA Championship, and few players in this field can match his blend of precision and course management, exactly what the Albatros demands.

Crucially, he knows this course intimately. Le Golf National is where Europe romped to Ryder Cup glory in 2018, with Fitzpatrick part of that team.

A meticulous, accurate operator who thrives on a layout that punishes mistakes, he looks a strong fit at 10/1. The five-place terms with Sky Bet make this a win-focused play, so he anchors the bets.

Kristoffer Reitan – 20/1

The improver with the game to travel. The Norwegian broke through with two DP World Tour wins in 2025 and has kicked on impressively in 2026, landing his first PGA Tour title at the Truist Championship and climbing inside the world’s top 25.

His major record this year, including a tie for 18th at the Open, shows the game holds up on demanding setups, and he underlined his form with a superb third-round 64 at Wentworth last week.

A confident, accurate ball-striker trending upward, he rates solid value at 20/1 with seven places at Coral.

Manuel Elvira – 66/1

The each-way value play, and arguably the most compelling story in the field.

The Spaniard, younger brother of Nacho Elvira, produced the week of his life at the BMW PGA Championship, holing an eagle at the 17th to grab a share of the lead before an agonising double bogey at the last dropped him into a tie for second.

Painful as that finish was, it confirmed his game is in superb shape against an elite field, and a player capable of leading the Tour’s flagship into the 72nd hole is grossly overpriced at 66/1 in a weaker line-up.

If he can dust himself down quickly, the confidence and form are there to contend again, precisely the type to catch each-way with seven places at Coral.
