Royal Ascot continues to prove why it remains one of the biggest events in the British sporting calendar, with new viewing figures showing a significant rise in audiences across this year’s five-day festival.
Fresh data released following the meeting revealed that ITV Racing enjoyed a 14 per cent increase in peak viewing figures compared to last year, while streaming numbers through ITVX almost doubled.
The figures underline the growing appeal of Royal Ascot, both among racing fans and more casual viewers who tune in during the summer’s flagship Flat racing festival.
One of the standout statistics from this year’s coverage was that ITV Racing recorded peak audiences of more than one million viewers on each of the first four days of the meeting.
That marks a notable improvement on 2025, when none of the live broadcasts managed to break the one million mark.
The biggest audience of the week arrived on Wednesday when more than 1.2 million viewers tuned in to watch the Prince of Wales’s Stakes, one of the headline races of the entire festival.
Interestingly, that audience was even larger than the peak figures recorded during Thursday’s Gold Cup card, which traditionally attracts some of the biggest attention of the week.
While television viewing figures remain strong, the latest numbers also highlight how racing fans are increasingly choosing to watch through digital platforms.
ITVX recorded around 2.6 million streams during Royal Ascot, almost double the figure achieved during the previous year’s meeting.
The growth reflects a wider trend across sport, with more viewers consuming live events through mobile devices, tablets and smart TVs rather than traditional television broadcasts.

The positive viewing figures were matched by strong attendance numbers on course.
Royal Ascot reported ticket and hospitality sales were up on last year, with more than 7,000 additional racegoers attending across the five days.
That helped push total attendance close to 295,000, reinforcing the festival’s position as one of the most popular events in British sport.
The combination of larger crowds and growing television audiences will be particularly encouraging for racing’s stakeholders, who continue to focus on attracting new fans to the sport.
Royal Ascot has always been one of racing’s biggest shop windows, but these latest figures suggest interest in the sport remains healthy both on course and at home.
The festival consistently delivers elite competition, major prize money and some of the most recognisable races in the world, helping it appeal far beyond traditional racing audiences.
With viewing figures up, streaming numbers rising sharply and attendance also increasing, Royal Ascot 2026 appears to have been one of the most successful editions of the meeting in recent years.
For racing fans, bookmakers and broadcasters alike, that can only be viewed as positive news heading into the remainder of the Flat racing season.
