Racing de SantanderRacing de Santander
vs
Real MadridReal Madrid
KickoffSunday 1 November 2026, 3:15pm
VenueCampos de Sport de El Sardinero
CompetitionSpanish La Liga
Who do you think will win?

Real Madrid arrive at El Sardinero carrying genuine momentum, fresh off the back of a famous El Clasico scalp, and Jose Mourinho will be desperate to keep the pressure on Barcelona at the top of La Liga. Three points here would keep Los Blancos firmly in the title conversation, and after what happened at the weekend, nobody in that dressing room will want to let that feeling slip.

For Racing de Santander, though, this is the biggest home fixture of their season. A freshly promoted side sitting 13th after a decent start, having just beaten Espanyol and eased through a Copa del Rey tie midweek, Jose Alberto Lopez has got his players in good nick. They will not be rolling over for anyone on their own patch, and that makes this a more interesting proposition than the odds might suggest.

Racing de Santander vs Real Madrid Match Details

The fixture takes place at El Sardinero in Santander, with Real Madrid making the trip north for this La Liga encounter. It is a ground with real character, the sort of compact, atmospheric stadium where away sides can find the going tougher than expected, and for a promoted club, it represents one of the most glamorous home dates of the entire season.

Team News

Racing go into this with a couple of notable absences but are otherwise in reasonable shape. Real Madrid have a few more bodies missing, though their squad depth means Mourinho still has plenty to work with.

  • Jorge Salinas is suspended after collecting his fifth yellow card of the season against Espanyol, leaving Racing short at left back
  • Simon Eriksson is out with a shoulder injury and will play no part
  • Yassir Zabiri is fit and in red hot form, eight goals in 10 league games this term
  • Rodrygo is out with a knee problem for Real Madrid
  • Ferland Mendy is sidelined with a hip injury
  • Raul Asencio is missing with a leg injury
  • Vinicius Junior serves a suspension and will not feature
  • Federico Valverde is expected to shake off a hamstring complaint in time to play
  • Thibaut Courtois has been battling illness but should be available

Predicted Lineups

Lopez is likely to set Racing up in a compact shape and look to get Zabiri on the ball as often as possible. With Salinas absent at left back, there could be a reshuffle defensively, but the rest of the lineup picks itself given the form they are in. Canales will be key in the middle of the park, linking play and trying to keep possession when Racing have it.

For Real Madrid, Mourinho will probably slot Dumfries in at right back with Valverde pushing into central midfield alongside Tchouameni. Courtois returns between the sticks, with Konate and Huijsen at centre back and Cucurella on the left. The forward line picks itself, Mbappe leads the line with Bellingham in the ten role and Guler and Diomande on either side.

  • Racing de Santander: Agirrezabala; Mantilla, Ramon, Belocian, Felipe; Prati, I Martin; A Martin, Canales, Vicente; Zabiri
  • Real Madrid: Courtois; Dumfries, Konate, Huijsen, Cucurella; Valverde, Tchouameni; Guler, Bellingham, Diomande; Mbappe

Recent Form

Racing are in better shape than their 13th place standing might suggest. Back to back wins, including that 2-1 league victory over Espanyol and a comfortable 2-0 Copa del Rey win over Ribadesella CF, have given Lopez’s players a real lift heading into this fixture. For a newly promoted side, winning consecutive games at any point in the season is significant, and there is a confidence about them at the moment that should not be dismissed.

Real Madrid are hitting their stride at just the right time. Five wins from five since that Atletico Madrid defeat before the international break is a serious run of form, and beating Barcelona 2-1 with Mbappe netting the winner late on is the sort of result that can galvanise a squad. Los Blancos are eight wins and two defeats in La Liga this season and are only three points off the top of the table.

The context matters too. Real Madrid have Champions League football coming up midweek against AEK Athens, and then a trip to Valencia the following weekend. Mourinho will be very aware of the schedule, but he will not want to take his foot off the gas in the title race. This is not a match he will treat lightly, but expect some rotation considerations bubbling under the surface.

Head-to-Head Record

The historical record between these sides is about as one sided as you would expect. Real Madrid have won nine of their last 10 meetings against Racing, with Los Blancos putting four past them without reply the last time they met back in February 2012. The only recent blemish on that record was a goalless draw at El Sardinero in September 2011.

To find the last time Racing actually beat Real Madrid you have to wind the clock back to April 2007, when a 2-1 home win gave the Green and Whites something to celebrate against the capital giants. That is nearly two decades ago, which underlines the scale of the task Racing face if they want to pull off something special here. The venue does give them a fighting chance of nicking something, given that draw in 2011 came on this same ground.

Key Stats

  • Yassir Zabiri has scored eight goals in 10 La Liga appearances this season, making him one of the most in form strikers in the division
  • Real Madrid have won nine of their last 10 meetings with Racing de Santander across all competitions
  • Los Blancos have recorded five consecutive wins since their defeat to Atletico Madrid before the international break

Racing de Santander vs Real Madrid Betting Tips

Real Madrid should win this, and probably comfortably given the difference in quality across the pitch. But Racing are not here to make up the numbers this season, and with Zabiri in blistering form and a couple of wins behind them going into this, there is enough about the home side to think they contribute to an entertaining afternoon rather than getting rolled over.

Over and Under Goals Prediction

Real Madrid have the firepower to punish Racing on the counter and through set pieces, and Zabiri always looks like he could nick one at the other end. With both sides in form and Los Blancos carrying real attacking intent, over 2.5 goals looks a solid call here.

Both Teams To Score (BTTS) Prediction

Zabiri has scored in a remarkable number of games this season and Racing looked capable of hurting Espanyol going forward. Real Madrid will be without Vinicius but still carry serious threat. Yes for both teams to score feels reasonable, even if you would expect the Madrid goals to come more easily.

Corners Prediction

When Real Madrid play against a defensive lower half side they tend to dominate possession and territory, which generates corner volume. Racing will look to frustrate and defend deep at times, which pushes Los Blancos wide and into crossing positions. Over 9.5 corners looks appealing in a match where Madrid will be doing a lot of the pressing and probing.

First Goalscorer Prediction

Kylian Mbappe is the obvious shout. He scored the winner in El Clasico, he leads the line for Real Madrid and he has the pace to absolutely terrorise Racing’s back four on the break. He is in form, motivated, and playing behind a creative midfield that will look to find him early. Back Mbappe to open the scoring.

Cards Prediction

Racing will need to be physical to have any chance of disrupting Madrid’s rhythm, and a newly promoted side under pressure in front of their own fans can get reckless at times. Expect a booking or two in midfield as Racing try to slow the game down. Over 3.5 cards looks workable in a match where the home side will be scrapping hard to stay in it.

Correct Score Prediction

Racing will get something out of this, Zabiri is too dangerous to be completely shut out, but Real Madrid have too much class across the park to be held. A 1-3 away win feels like the likeliest outcome, with Mbappe and Bellingham doing the damage and Racing nicking one through their talismanic striker.

Bet Builder Tip

Market Selection
First Goalscorer Kylian Mbappe
Both Teams To Score Yes
Total Corners Over 9.5

Mbappe looks primed for another big performance, the corner volume should be high with Madrid pushing forward throughout, and Zabiri’s form makes it hard to see Racing being kept completely quiet.

Final Match Prediction

Real Madrid will win this one. The quality difference is simply too significant across the pitch, and with Mourinho keeping his squad sharp in pursuit of Barcelona at the top of the table, Los Blancos will not be taking this trip lightly. Mbappe is in the kind of form that makes defenders’ legs go to jelly, and with Bellingham pulling the strings behind him, Racing will have their work cut out.

That said, give Racing credit. They have earned their place back in La Liga, Zabiri is a genuinely exciting talent, and the atmosphere at El Sardinero will be something special. They will not go quietly. But three points are heading back to Madrid. Racing de Santander 1-3 Real Madrid.
