Just over a week after the news broke that Premier League club Newcastle United were to be bought out in a takeover deal worth £305M, the Magpies are back on the field when they host Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park on Sunday.
There have been mixed opinions regarding the takeover of Newcastle United with several fans of rival teams, along with the clubs themselves, voicing their disapproval of the new owners. However, Newcastle fans are looking forward to more than a glimmer of ambition at the club going forward; something that they have been without during Mike Ashley’s 14-year tenure.
However, until the transfer window opens on January 1st, Newcastle’s squad will remain unchanged and current manager Steve Bruce will have no choice but to work with the players who are still looking for their first league win of the season, starting with their match against Tottenham on Sunday.

Tottenham also haven’t performed to their maximum potential this season. Goals have been the main issue with Nuno Espírito Santo’s side averaging less than one goal per game in the league.
WhichBookie caught up with ex-Newcastle United and Spurs star, Chris Waddle, to listen to his thoughts on Tottenham Hotspur’s form this season and in particular, that of the current England number 9 and 2018 World Cup Golden Boot winner, Harry Kane whose poor form he believes could be due to the striker being tired after a busy schedule. Here’s what Chris had to say…
I think since Mauricio Pochettino left, Spurs haven’t found the right person to take charge. Tottenham fans want to be entertained and they love to see skill and technique, so that’s why Jose Mourinho’s appointment was a strange one to me. He isn’t a performances manager, he’s a results one and to be honest, I think Nuno [Espirito-Santo] is in a similar mould. He did a great job at Wolves, but his side weren’t exactly thrilling on the eye. They defended well and once they got ahead they knew how to maintain it. That sort of style of play isn’t what Tottenham are about.
I haven’t seen the style of play that Spurs fans want for a good two or three seasons now, and I just feel there are quite a lot of players at the club who look a bit past it. They haven’t freshened it up enough and I think that’s beginning to catch up with them.
Tottenham supporters will put up with the team losing if they put a shift in and take the game to the opposition, but you just look at them at the moment and they aren’t getting results coupled with the fact they aren’t playing well. That’s not a very good recipe and for me they should have looked at Nuno and realised he isn’t really in the mould of a Spurs manager. He’s not a bad manager by any means, but this ‘not getting beat’ mentality is not what Tottenham Hotspur are about.
Harry [Kane] must have been heavily distracted by the Manchester City move in the summer and he clearly thought he would be moving on, so for that not to have materialised must have been hard. He’s probably lost a little bit of confidence and interest in Tottenham which is showing on the pitch. One thing I have noticed is that he does look tired and frankly I’m not surprised given the ridiculous amount of football they play these days. The top players get so little time off, it must be so hard to keep playing at full capacity week-on-week. I look at some players and they look like they’re running on empty, and Harry is one of those.
The issue is these players can’t be rested because of how important they are to their clubs and countries and eventually the workload catches up with you.
