Ripon Tips

Nicknamed the Garden Racecourse, Ripon is a flat racing racecourse located in North Yorkshire. Owned by Go Racing In Yorkshire, which is the marketing organisation of Yorkshire’s nine racecourses, it was voted the ‘Best Small Racecourse in the North’ by the Racegoers’ Club in 2003.

Race meetings take place throughout the summer between June and September and the course is extremely popular with spectators of all ages, especially for their Family Days.

Ripon Racecourse

Ripon course is quite a sharp track with tight bends in the oval shape. It is right-handed and is 13 furlongs around.

The home straight is five furlongs but 6-furlong races can be run using the extension.

Ripon Feature Races

Ripon hosts races from June through to September each year.

Three events are held in June with those being Ladies day and two evening meets, one of which features the Wells Memorial Cup.

July brings us the Handicap Stakes as well as the Go Racing in Yorkshire Summer Festival which provides a relaxed, chilled out atmosphere with a festival feeling along with a host of races.

There are five race meets in August at Ripon which include three Family Days that are extremely popular with parents and children who can attend in fancy dress. August also brings us the biggest race on the Ripon calendar, the Great St Wilfrid Handicap along with the Ripon Champion Two Years Old Trophy.

September is the last month of racing at the course which includes the City of Ripon Handicap along with an enjoyable BBQ & Beer festival for all.
