Nottingham Forest were one of the 22 teams that featured in the first ever season of the Premier League back in 1992 when they were managed by Brian Clough.
However, their original Premier League stint was rather brief, lasting just the one season before they were relegated into the First Division in 1994.
Following stints in and out of the top-flight for several years, Forest were relegated again in 1999 and would have to wait 23 years to return.
Given the importance of returning to the Premier League after such a long period away, the pressure on whoever is in charge of the club is immense.
Current Nottingham Forest Manager
Steve Cooper is a professional football coach and former player who is currently the manager of Nottingham Forest Football Club.
Cooper was born on October 10, 1979, in Pontypridd, Wales, and began his playing career as a midfielder at Wrexham in 1997. He also played for The New Saints, Rhyl, Bangor City, and Porthmadog before retiring from playing in 2006.
After his playing career, Cooper began his coaching career, working in various coaching roles at Wrexham, Liverpool, and the Football Association of Wales. He then became the head coach of the England U17 national team in 2014, leading them to the UEFA European U17 Championship in 2017.
Cooper’s success with the England U17 team led to his appointment as the manager of Swansea City in 2019. He led the team to the Championship playoffs in his first season in charge, but they were defeated by Brentford in the semifinals. In his second season, he led Swansea to the Championship playoffs once again. This time they reached the final but again, suffered defeat at the hands of Brentford.
In June 2021, Cooper left Swansea to become the manager of Nottingham Forest, where he is currently in charge. Following finishing 4th in the Championship in the 2021/22 season, Cooper guided Forest into the Premier League for the first time in 1999 in his first season in charge of the club.
Who Will Be the Next Nottingham Forest Manager?
Not many fans will have any complaints about Cooper’s first season in charge at Nottingham Forest as he brought the club up into the top-flight of English football for the first time in 23 years. However, despite investing almost £300 million in new players following their promotion, Forest have failed to impress and find themselves in a worrying position in the league table.
Given the amount spent on players and the number of players that have been brought into the club to help them cope with the level of the Premier League, Steve Cooper is under an increasing amount of pressure to turn things around to ensure the safety of his club.
