Hull City Form
Man United Form
Hull City vs Manchester United prediction is one of the more intriguing opening-weekend calls in the 2026/27 Premier League, with the newly promoted Tigers welcoming Michael Carrick’s Manchester United to the MKM Stadium on Saturday 22 August. Kick-off is at 12:30 BST, and while Hull have the home crowd behind them after their play-off success, United arrive having finished third last season and with considerably greater top-flight experience.
Hull’s return to the Premier League gives this fixture an extra edge. They finished last season strongly enough to win promotion and will want to make their first top-flight appearance in nearly a decade count. United, though, ended 2025/26 in excellent form and look capable of starting the new campaign with three points.
This is Gameweek 1 of the 2026/27 Premier League season, so neither side has any league points on the board yet.
Hull earned their place through the Championship play-offs and now face an immediate test of how well their rebuilt squad can handle Premier League opposition. Eleven summer arrivals are being integrated into the group.
United begin the campaign under permanent manager Michael Carrick after finishing third last season. Darren England has been confirmed as referee for the match at the MKM Stadium in Kingston upon Hull.
UK viewers can watch Hull City vs Manchester United live on TNT Sports, with streaming available through discovery+.
The match kicks off at 12:30 BST on Saturday 22 August.
Internationally, Fubo Sports via DAZN Canada and Peacock TV Premium in the United States are among the confirmed options, subject to regional restrictions. Live radio commentary is also available through talkSPORT.
Hull will be without goalkeeper Jack Butland, who has suffered an arm fracture and is expected to remain sidelined until Christmas. Defender Charlie Hughes is also unavailable with a groin problem following double hernia surgery.
Captain Lewie Coyle is less certain. He picked up a knock late in pre-season and his condition is being monitored ahead of the opener. Hull have no reported suspensions.
Manchester United are definitely without Manuel Ugarte following knee ligament surgery.
There are several other fitness questions for Carrick. Mason Mount has been dealing with a foot injury, while Benjamin Sesko is recovering from a shin problem and looks highly doubtful to start. Matthijs de Ligt is short of match fitness following back surgery.
Youri Tielemans is the difficult one to call. There is conflicting information over his thigh problem, despite him featuring in predicted starting lineups, so his availability needs treating with caution.
Marcus Rashford has returned to friendly action after a lengthy absence, while Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo are approaching first-team readiness.
Hull City predicted XI (4-3-3): Lo-Tutala; Targett, Egan, Ajayi, Giles; Morita, Zambrano, Ömür; McBurnie, Kamara, Millar.
Manchester United predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Heaven, Shaw; Tielemans, Andrey Santos; Diallo, Fernandes, Cunha; Mbeumo.
Tielemans is the obvious selection caveat for United given the uncertainty surrounding his fitness.
Hull ended their Championship campaign with three wins, one draw and one defeat across their final five competitive matches.
They beat Middlesbrough 1-0 in the play-off final after overcoming Millwall 2-0 at home following a goalless first leg. Before the play-offs, Hull defeated Norwich City 2-1 and lost 2-1 at Charlton Athletic.
That sequence produced six goals scored and three conceded, while Hull are unbeaten across their last two competitive matches at the MKM Stadium.
United finished their Premier League season with even stronger momentum, winning four and drawing one of their final five league matches.
They beat Brighton 3-0, Nottingham Forest 3-2, Liverpool 3-2 and Brentford 2-1, with a 0-0 draw at Sunderland the only game they failed to win.
United scored 11 goals and conceded five during that five-match sequence. That attacking form is one of the strongest reasons to favour them here.
You have to go back a long way for meaningful competitive meetings between these clubs.
The last five produced two Manchester United victories, two draws and one Hull win. Their most recent encounter was a 0-0 Premier League draw at Old Trafford in February 2017.
Hull had beaten United 2-1 in the EFL Cup shortly before that, although United won the two other meetings during the 2016/17 season.
With almost a decade separating those games from this fixture, the historical record carries limited weight when assessing Saturday’s match.
Manchester United scored 11 goals across their final five Premier League matches of 2025/26, an average of 2.2 per game.
Four of those five matches ended with both teams scoring.
Hull conceded only three times across their final five competitive games and recorded two clean sheets in their three play-off fixtures.
United nevertheless arrive with the stronger recent league form, having gone unbeaten across their final five matches with four victories.
Manchester United to win is the strongest selection.
Hull’s promotion momentum and home advantage deserve respect, particularly on an opening weekend when enthusiasm around the MKM Stadium should be high. The step up in opposition is substantial, though.
United finished last season strongly, scored freely during that run and possess more proven quality throughout the expected XI. Hull’s summer turnover adds another element of uncertainty as their new-look squad settles.
Match Result Prediction: Manchester United to win. Bet with bet365.
United saw both teams score in four of their final five league fixtures, but Hull’s play-off run was considerably tighter.
The Tigers kept two clean sheets across three play-off matches and may adopt another disciplined approach against stronger opposition. United should still create the better chances, and a clean-sheet away victory looks slightly more convincing than relying on Hull to score.

BTTS Prediction: Both Teams To Score – No. Bet with bet365.
United’s 11 goals across their final five league games underline the attacking threat they bring into the new season.
Hull were much more controlled during the play-offs, which makes a particularly high-scoring game less convincing. A 2-0 United victory fits that combination well and makes over 1.5 goals the preferred line.
Over/Under Goals Prediction: Over 1.5 goals. Bet with bet365.
Hull should make United work for the result, especially with the energy surrounding their Premier League return, but Carrick’s side have the attacking quality to take control.
A 2-0 away win feels like the best balance between United’s stronger attack and Hull’s relatively disciplined defensive finish to last season.
Correct Score Prediction: Hull City 0-2 Manchester United. Bet with bet365.
Bryan Mbeumo is expected to lead United’s attack and is the most sensible first-goalscorer choice from the predicted XI.
With Sesko highly doubtful and Mbeumo occupying the central attacking role in the expected lineup, he gets the preference to break the deadlock.
First Goalscorer Prediction: Bryan Mbeumo. Bet with bet365.
There are no specific corner figures to lean on, so this is a lower-confidence call.
United should spend more time attacking if the game follows the expected pattern, while Hull may have spells where they need to defend closer to their own goal. That should create opportunities for corners at both ends as the match develops.
Corners Prediction: Over 8.5 total corners. Bet with bet365.
Opening-day intensity could make this competitive even if United eventually establish control.
Hull may also spend considerable periods without the ball against a stronger opponent. Without specific disciplinary figures or referee card trends to support a higher line, over 2.5 total cards is the more measured prediction.
Cards Prediction: Over 2.5 total cards. Bet with bet365.
Keeping this simple makes sense. Manchester United to win is the strongest individual prediction, while over 1.5 total goals allows for the expected difference in attacking quality without requiring an especially open game.
Bet Builder Tip: Manchester United to win, over 1.5 total goals, and Bryan Mbeumo to score anytime. Bet with bet365.
Hull’s Premier League return should give them plenty of motivation, and their defensive performances through the play-offs suggest United cannot expect everything their own way.
The visitors still look stronger in the areas most likely to decide the contest. They finished last season unbeaten across their final five league matches, scored 11 times during that run and have enough attacking quality to gradually turn territorial control into chances.
Hull City 0-2 Manchester United is the preferred score.
Final prediction: Hull City 0-2 Manchester United.
Best match-result tip: Manchester United to win.
Goals prediction: Over 1.5 goals.
BTTS prediction: No.
