Bondar has had a genuinely tough week getting to this stage. Every single match she has played in Seoul has gone three sets, which means her legs have taken a real battering. Birrell, by contrast, was able to get most of her quarterfinal played yesterday before the rain arrived and has been considerably fresher in terms of court time. When you have two baseliners who grind and construct points, that extra freshness matters enormously. Bondar has shown plenty of fight this week, but asking her to dig deep again in a third set against someone who has had more recovery time feels like too much.

Korneeva leads this head to head one match to nil, and on the basis of current form that feels about right. Joint has had a miserable 2026 for the most part, enduring a lengthy losing run in the first half of the season that seemed to knock her confidence significantly. She came into the year with some momentum from a decent 2025 campaign, but it completely dried up. The fact she has reached the last four here in Seoul is genuinely encouraging and suggests she is finding her level again, but the question is whether she has enough to get past Korneeva.

The Russian has been outstanding this week. Her court coverage is exceptional and she has this suffocating way of wearing opponents down from the baseline, making them work for every single point until they eventually crack. She is still hunting her first WTA title and this week looks like a real opportunity. Joint will want to counterpunch and look for moments to take control of rallies, but Korneeva is simply the more consistent player right now and has looked the part throughout the tournament. If Korneeva plays her natural game and keeps the match physical, I think she earns her place in the final.
