CompetitionUEFA Champions League
Who do you think will win?

RB Leipzig need a response. After getting torn apart 4-1 by Como in their Champions League opener, Martin Demichelis and his squad have a point to prove, and they have the perfect opportunity to do it on home turf against PSV Eindhoven. The Red Bull Arena has been a fortress so far this season, and Leipzig will be desperate to use it to get their European campaign back on track before it slips away from them entirely.

PSV come into this in decent nick, sitting second in the Eredivisie and with six wins from their last seven across all competitions. But their defensive numbers raise eyebrows, and stepping into a ground where the home side have scored 14 goals in three games without conceding once is a serious test of character. This one has plenty riding on it for both clubs.

RB Leipzig vs PSV Eindhoven Match Details

This Champions League league phase fixture takes place at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig, Germany. Both sides are looking to get off the mark in the competition after indifferent opening results, making this a genuinely important fixture in what promises to be a competitive group of matches across the phase.

Team News

Demichelis is dealing with a frustrating injury list that has robbed him of a few key options heading into this one. PSV are even more stretched, with a surprisingly lengthy absentee sheet for a side sitting so well in their domestic league.

  • Marc Guiu (Leipzig) is out with a muscle injury and still a few weeks away from returning
  • Assan Ouedraogo (Leipzig) is sidelined with a shoulder injury
  • Christoph Baumgartner (Leipzig) is unavailable due to a thigh problem
  • Adamo Nagalo (PSV) is ruled out for the remainder of the season
  • Kilian Sildillia (PSV) is a long-term absentee
  • Alassane Plea (PSV) is also out for the long term
  • Sam Lammers (PSV) is nursing a knock
  • Sami Ouaissa (PSV) is out with a hamstring problem
  • Jerdy Schouten (PSV) is sidelined with a ligament injury
  • Paul Warner and Ricardo Pepi (PSV) are expected to return at some point this month but may not feature here

Predicted Lineups

Leipzig should line up in a familiar shape under Demichelis, with Nkunku pulling the strings behind the striker and wide options Nusa and Maksimovic providing the pace to exploit space on the counter. The back four looks settled, and with the team conceding nothing at home so far, there is no reason to tinker with what has been working.

For PSV, Peter Bosz is likely to go with a system built around creativity through the middle, with Til and Van Bommel providing energy and Perisic offering experience out wide. Dest at right back is interesting given he scored on his Champions League debut for the club last time out, and Bosz will want him pushing forward when the opportunity arises.

  • Leipzig: Vandevoordt; Baku, Orban, Lukeba, Raum; El Aynaoui, Seiwald; Nusa, Nkunku, Maksimovic; Gruda
  • PSV: Kovar; Kostic, Obispo, Geertruida, Dest; Fernandez, Sano, Til; Van Bommel, Man, Perisic

Recent Form

Leipzig have been a completely different beast at home compared to on the road this season. Three wins from three at the Red Bull Arena, 14 goals scored, none conceded. That is the kind of record that turns heads, and their most recent outing at home was a stunning 6-0 demolition of Frankfurt. When they are at their best in front of their own supporters, this team is genuinely difficult to handle. The Champions League loss to Como stings, but that was away from home against a side managed by Cesc Fabregas who clearly had a game plan that caught Leipzig cold.

PSV arrive with six wins from their last seven across all competitions, so the momentum is clearly with Peter Bosz’s side. Their Eredivisie campaign has them sitting second with 19 points from eight games, just a point behind Feyenoord. That is strong, consistent form. The concern is at the back. Conceding 10 goals in eight Eredivisie games is not the kind of defensive record that fills you with confidence when you are about to visit a team that has been ruthless in front of goal at home. They did show character in their Champions League opener, fighting back from behind to draw with Shakhtar Donetsk, but that resilience will be tested far more severely here.

The contrast between Leipzig at home and Leipzig away almost feels like two separate teams this season. For PSV, the question is whether their attack is sharp enough to punish any moments of Leipzig vulnerability, because if they do not take their chances, the hosts have shown they can absolutely run away with games on their own patch.

Head-to-Head Record

These two sides have never met in a competitive fixture before, which makes this a genuinely fresh matchup with no historical patterns to lean on. There is no head to head record to dig into, no old wounds, no psychological edges built up over years of European encounters. Both managers will be doing their homework purely on current form and tactical analysis rather than drawing on any previous meetings. That makes the team news and home advantage all the more significant as factors in calling this one.

Key Stats

  • Leipzig have scored 14 goals in three home games this season without conceding once
  • PSV have conceded 10 goals in eight Eredivisie matches, an average of more than one per game
  • Leipzig lost their Champions League opener 4-1 to Como, making this a must not lose fixture for their European hopes

RB Leipzig vs PSV Eindhoven Betting Tips

The numbers point pretty firmly in one direction here. Leipzig at home are in a different gear to the side that got picked apart by Como. PSV’s defensive record is a genuine worry at this level, and walking into a stadium where the home side have been scoring for fun is a daunting proposition. The smart money looks to be on Leipzig controlling this one, but PSV have enough creative quality to at least threaten going forward.

Both Teams To Score (BTTS) Prediction

This is a tricky one. Leipzig’s home defensive record is immaculate so far, but PSV have shown the ability to find goals even when under pressure. The visitors have the attacking tools through Man, Perisic and Van Bommel to cause problems, and a clean sheet feels like a stretch. BTTS Yes looks worth a look, though Leipzig keeping it tight at home makes No a reasonable alternative depending on your risk appetite.

Over and Under Goals Prediction

Given Leipzig’s relentless home form in front of goal and PSV’s leaky backline, backing Over 2.5 goals feels like the natural call. The hosts have averaged well over four goals per home game this season, and even if PSV tighten things up, Leipzig look likely to contribute at least two of their own to the total.

Correct Score Prediction

Leipzig to win 2-0. The home side are too well organised defensively and too dangerous going forward for PSV to pick up anything here. A comfortable home win without the visitors finding a way through a back four that has not been breached at the Red Bull Arena all season.

Corners Prediction

Leipzig have been dominant in possession and territory in their home games, pushing forward in numbers and forcing opponents to defend deep. PSV will likely sit compact at times and invite pressure, which should generate a healthy number of corners for the hosts. Over 9.5 corners for the match looks reasonable given the attacking intent Leipzig bring on home soil.

Bet Builder Tip

Market Selection
Match Result RB Leipzig to Win
Over/Under Goals Over 2.5 Goals
Corners Over 9.5 Total Corners

Leipzig controlling the game at home should naturally generate the territory, corners and goals needed to land all three of these picks in one shot.

Final Match Prediction

Leipzig 2-0 PSV Eindhoven. Demichelis’s side are wounded from that Como defeat and have a home record this season that demands respect. The Red Bull Arena has been a no go zone for opposition sides, and PSV’s defensive numbers suggest they could be in for a difficult evening against a Leipzig attack that has been in ridiculous form on their own patch.

PSV have the quality to make it competitive in spells, and Bosz will not travel to Germany without a plan. But the overall balance of this fixture, home fortress form versus a leaky away defence, tips decisively towards Leipzig getting the three points and giving their Champions League campaign the jumpstart it desperately needs.
