Virat Kohli is the obvious name to watch with the bat for India. The conditions here are expected to suit chasing sides, and Kohli in a chase is about as dangerous a prospect as there is in world cricket. He reads the situation exceptionally well, knows when to press and when to consolidate, and his current form only adds to the concern for West Indies bowlers. If India find themselves needing runs in the second innings, Kohli will be central to the response.

Alzarri Joseph is the man most likely to trouble India’s top order with the ball. He is a tall, skiddy, hit the deck type of quick bowler who can extract more from the surface than most. He has only recently returned from injury and by all accounts has hit the ground running since his comeback. The Thiruvananthapuram pitch in its early stages should suit everything he does, and he has the ability to swing a match on his own on the right day.

Our Prediction

India on home soil, with their recent form in these conditions and a batting lineup that is simply too deep and too experienced for West Indies to contain throughout a full fifty overs, looks the sensible call. West Indies can be explosive but they need things to go right early, and India are too well organised to let that happen consistently.
