Located within touching distance of its neighbouring seaside town, Great Yarmouth Racecourse is a popular destination for locals and those travelling from further afar.
Racing takes place during the flat season but the course hosts events all throughout the year such as family fun days.
Racing in Great Yarmouth dates back to 1715 and the racecourse today hosts 23 flat race meets annually and attracts top jockeys and up-and-coming two-year-old horses.
Great Yarmouth Racecourse
The course at Great Yarmouth is used for flat racing only. It is left-handed and a narrow oval in shape.
The circuit is 13 furlongs around but when the 5-furlong run-in is utilised, races of up to one mile can be held on the straight course.
The relatively flat nature of the course and the two five-furlong long straights makes it more suited to long-striding horses.
Great Yarmouth Feature Races
Great Yarmouth isn’t known for the biggest races but it does host the John Musker Fillies’ Stakes which has been won by Frankie Dettori on two occasions. First in 2003 when riding Echoes In Eternity and most recently in 2016 on So Mi Dar. The race was introduced in 1993 and is scheduled to take place in September each year.
