Leicester Tips

Leicester Racecourse is located around three miles south of Leicester city centre in Oadby, Leicestershire.

The racecourse hosts both flat at National Hunt races throughout the year with 30 events currently scheduled to take place annually.

The Kube, which was opened in 2014, attracts more people to the racecourse as the 1,000 person capacity venue hosts regular conferences, weddings and exhibitions.

Victoria Park was the location for the racecourse previously in Leicester with races documented as far back as 1773. However, it wasn’t until 1883 that racing was moved to the current location in Oadby.

Leicester Racecourse

Leicester Racecourse is around 1 mile and 5 furlongs around. It is right-handed and oval-shaped and has a straight 7 furlong course that starts downhill before switching to uphill at around the half way point before levelling off for the final 1 1/2 furlongs. Races of between five and seven furlongs are run on the straight course.

The jumps course consists of 10 fences with 2 open ditches and 1 water jump and races take place on the flat course.

Leicester Feature Races

30 race meetings take place every year at Leicester Racecourse and so there are no shortage of events. The most prominent race is The King Richard III Stakes which takes place in April annually and is ran over a distance of 7 furlongs and 9 yards. The race has previously been known as the Philip Cornes Trophy Stakes, the Leicestershire Stakes and the Holsten Pils Trophy before being given its current name in 2013 after the skeleton of King Richard III was discovered in Leicester that year.
