Uttoxeter Tips

Uttoxeter Racecourse is located in Staffordshire and was built in 1907. It’s considered a modern racecourse with excellent sporting infrastructure and hospitality facilities and has been host to many memorable moments over the years.

Josh Gifford rode 121 winners in a season at Uttoxeter in 1967 to equal the record that was held by Fred Winter. AP McCoy also became the most successful National Hunt jockey when riding Mighty Montefalco at Uttoxeter in 2002.

Uttoxeter Racecourse

Uttoxeter Racecourse is left-handed and oval-shaped that is 1 mile 2½ furlongs around. The back straight sees a steady climb over Clump Hill followed by a downhill bend heading into the home straight which is a flat four furlongs.

Uttoxeter Feature Races

Uttoxeter certainly isn’t the busiest racecourse in the country but there are a couple of races that are worth taking note of.

The biggest race of the year at Uttoxeter is the Midlands Grand National which takes place in March. With 24 fences to be jumped over a distance of 4 miles and 2 furlongs, this handicap steeplechase is a tough race that has never been won by the same horse more than once since it began in 1969. Only the Grand National at Aintree is longer in distance than the Midlands Grand National.

The Uttoxeter Summer Cup is another big race at the course which takes place in June or July. It was previously known as The Summer National and run over 3 miles & 2 furlongs.
