Eddie Howe’s surprise departure from Newcastle United has immediately sparked one of the biggest managerial betting markets of the summer. While Newcastle appear close to appointing a replacement, attention has quickly shifted to where Howe could end up next.
The former Bournemouth and Newcastle boss has built an excellent reputation over the past decade, so it’s no surprise that bookmakers have already priced up a long list of possible destinations.
If you’re looking for the latest manager markets, our next manager to go guide covers everything you need to know, while our next Newcastle manager page follows the latest developments at St James’ Park.
Howe stepped down from Newcastle on 30 July, citing personal reasons after five years in charge.
His spell on Tyneside included ending the club’s 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy with the 2025 League Cup success, along with two Champions League qualifications and some memorable European nights at St James’ Park.
Despite a disappointing 2025/26 campaign and a difficult summer in the transfer market, many expected Howe to remain in charge heading into the new Premier League season, making his exit one of the biggest football stories of the summer.
Although Howe has indicated he intends to take some time away from management, bookmakers believe it may not be long before he returns.
The England job features prominently in the betting. Thomas Tuchel remains under contract, but speculation continues after England’s World Cup campaign, and Howe has long been admired by many as a future England manager.
Manchester United also sit near the top of the market. While Michael Carrick is preparing for his first full season, managerial betting markets often react quickly if results turn.
Another interesting option is a move to the Saudi Pro League. Newcastle’s ownership links through the Saudi Public Investment Fund naturally fuel speculation, while several high-profile European managers have already made the switch.
West Ham, Everton, Tottenham and Crystal Palace also feature among the leading contenders, although much will depend on how the opening months of the new season unfold.
Bookmakers have slightly different prices, but several names appear consistently near the top of the market.
Current favourites include:
As always with next manager betting, prices can move very quickly whenever fresh reports emerge.
That remains a real possibility.
Howe has spoken previously about the intensity of Premier League management, and after five demanding years at Newcastle, a short break would not surprise many observers.
Waiting for the right opportunity could also strengthen his position. Several high-profile jobs may become available over the next 12 to 18 months, including the England role if circumstances change after Euro 2028.
Manager betting has become one of football’s most popular special markets because situations can change overnight.
One press conference, a poor run of results or fresh reports can cause major swings in the odds within hours. Howe’s reputation means he is likely to remain towards the top of several manager markets until his next move is confirmed.
Whether he returns to the Premier League, waits for the England job or explores an opportunity abroad, his next appointment will be one of the biggest managerial stories in football.
