FC Barcelona, one of the most biggest football clubs in the world, have achieved huge success in the clubs 125 year history, including multiple La Liga and UEFA Champions League titles. An iconic club, Barcelona has produced legendary players like Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez, and Andres Iniesta to name but a few. However, the club is currently at a crossroads, facing the departure of their current manager, Xavi. As speculation circles around who will take the reins next, betting markets are now open for who will be the next Barcelona manager.
Xavi Hernandez, the current Barcelona manager, was a midfield maestro during his playing days with Barcelona, and significantly contributed to their success which included no less than 32 trophies whilst he was playing for the club. Four Champions League titles, eight league titles, three Copa del Rey, six Spanish Super Cups, two European Super Cups, two Club World Cups, six Copa de Catalunya and one Catalan Super Cup is an incredible achievement for a key player in any team and showcased not only Xavi’s talent as a player, but also Barcelona’s dominance during this period.
Xavi announced his retirement from playing following the conclusion of the 2014 World Cup and stepped into his first managerial role in Qatar in 2019. He was appointed as the manager of Al Sadd on a two-year contract and helped the club reach the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League.
Two years later on 6th November 2021, Xavi returned to his former club, replacing Ronald Koeman as the manager of FC Barcelona until June 2024.
In his first season in charge, Barcelona finished second, 13 points adrift of league winners Real Madrid. The following season, he guided Barcelona to their first La Liga title since 2019. However, things haven’t gone to plan for Xavi and his old club in the 2023/24 season and a string of poor results has left them struggling for consistency and at risk of giving up their title.
Even though Xavi signed a contract extension until 2025, with the team underperforming this season, a new manager at FC Barcelona could likely be on the cards.
With a club like FC Barcelona, it’s more than likely that the next manager they recruit will be a well-known name.
