Celtic are arguably the most successful club in Scotland, with a slight edge in total major trophies (120 to 118) to rivals Rangers. They hold 53 Scottish League titles, 41 Scottish Cups, and the achievement of being the first British club to lift the European Cup back in 1967. With an enormous fanbase and huge expectations in the Scottish league & cups, the manager role at the club is not an easy job to take.
After a turbulent start to the 2025/26 season, the club now finds itself searching for a new manager once again following the departure of Wilfried Nancy.
Wilfried Nancy is no longer the manager of Celtic, having been dismissed in January 2026 after just 33 days in charge at Parkhead.
The 48-year-old Frenchman was appointed as Brendan Rodgers’ successor on a two-and-a-half-year contract after arriving from Major League Soccer side Columbus Crew. However, his tenure quickly unravelled following a dramatic downturn in results, with Celtic losing six of his eight matches in charge across all competitions.
Nancy’s final game was a 3-1 home defeat to Rangers in the Old Firm derby, a result that increased the pressure on the club and sparked supporter protests outside Celtic Park. His spell also included defeats in the Scottish League Cup final and a run of four consecutive losses for the first time since 1978.
Celtic’s board acted decisively following concerns over Nancy’s tactical inflexibility, particularly his commitment to a 3-4-3 system. His assistants and head of football operations Paul Tisdale also departed alongside him.
Martin O’Neill has been reappointed as interim manager until the end of the season, assisted by Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham, as Celtic turn their attention to appointing a new permanent head coach. That decision has immediately fuelled interest in the next Celtic manager betting market, with several candidates now emerging.
Celtic’s decision to sack Wilfried Nancy after just 33 days has immediately reignited speculation over who will be appointed as the club’s next permanent manager, with bookmakers moving quickly to install a familiar name at the head of the market.
Interim boss Martin O’Neill has emerged as the early favourite in the next Celtic manager odds. The 73-year-old has returned to the dugout until the end of the season and is seen as a steadying presence following another turbulent managerial change at Parkhead. O’Neill’s previous success with the club, combined with his current interim role, has made him a strong contender to remain in charge on a longer-term basis.
Close behind in the betting is Shaun Maloney, who is currently assisting O’Neill and is highly regarded within the club’s hierarchy. Maloney’s tactical approach and familiarity with Celtic’s structure have reportedly strengthened his position.
Elsewhere, former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is among the standout names in the market following spells with Tottenham and Nottingham Forest. His outstanding record during his previous time in Glasgow continues to resonate with supporters. A number of external candidates, including Kieran McKenna and several European-based coaches, also feature at longer odds.
