Chelsea vs Manchester City prediction time. Two clubs with massive FA Cup history, loads of finals between them, and plenty of drama whenever they meet. Chelsea are chasing a ninth FA Cup crown to save a rough season, while City arrive at Wembley looking like a machine again under Pep Guardiola. The final takes place on Saturday, 16 May 2026, with kick-off at 3:00 PM BST at Wembley Stadium.
What makes this one even more interesting is the contrast between the clubs right now. City are still battling near the top of the Premier League and already have the Carabao Cup in the bag. Chelsea, meanwhile, have completely lost momentum in the league. Six straight defeats have piled pressure on interim boss Calum McFarlane, but cup football changes everything. One good afternoon at Wembley and suddenly the whole season feels different.
Manchester City still look incredibly dangerous even with a few changes across the squad this season. Erling Haaland remains the main man up front after another huge scoring campaign, while Belgian winger Jérémy Doku has become one of City’s most explosive attacking threats. He caused Chelsea loads of problems in the recent league meeting and will fancy his chances again at Wembley.
Rayan Cherki has added creativity between the lines and Bernardo Silva continues to run games with his movement and energy. Silva is also likely to take responsibility for set-pieces alongside Cherki.
At the back, City now have Marc Guéhi alongside Abdukodir Khusanov in central defence, while Gianluigi Donnarumma gives plenty of presence between the posts.
Chelsea’s hopes will depend heavily on Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernández. Palmer has become Chelsea’s biggest attacking outlet and usually handles penalties and dangerous free-kicks. Fernández remains the midfield leader and sets the rhythm in possession.
Moisés Caicedo and Roméo Lavia are expected to do plenty of defensive work in midfield, especially with City likely to dominate the ball. João Pedro gives Chelsea movement up front, while young midfielder Josh Derry could play an important role linking play.
There’s also plenty of attention on Malo Gusto and Marc Cucurella. Both full-backs may need to tuck inside at times to help Chelsea avoid being overrun centrally.

Chelsea could sit deeper than usual and try to stay compact through midfield. That feels likely after their recent struggles in the league. Palmer and João Pedro will probably be asked to break quickly whenever Chelsea recover possession.
City, though, will almost certainly try to stretch the game wide. Doku against Gusto feels like one of the key battles, while Cherki drifting into pockets could cause real issues between the lines.
City look the safer pick simply because of current form. Chelsea’s league collapse has been hard to ignore, while Guardiola’s side still look sharp in every competition.
Still, finals can get weird. Chelsea know this trophy is their only realistic route back into Europe, so you should expect a more disciplined and aggressive performance than what we’ve seen recently in the league.
One angle worth looking at is bookings. Caicedo has picked up cards regularly against City and could easily find himself under pressure again trying to stop transitions and quick passing combinations.
