Saturday lunchtime in the Championship and we’ve got a tasty one at the MKM. Hull City take on Sheffield United, and there’s plenty of history and form lines to make this really interesting.
Hull are in decent nick at home and love a high-scoring game. Sheffield United, meanwhile, can’t seem to stop conceding but always manage to make things tricky against the Tigers when they visit. So, who takes control this time? Let’s dive in.
Hull come into this with no injury worries at all. Sergej Jakirović has a full squad to choose from, which is always a bonus. Expect them to stick with the 4-2-3-1 shape that’s worked recently.
Ivor Pandur should start in goal, with Coyle, Egan, Hughes, and Giles making up the back four. In midfield, Hadziahmetovic and Lundstram give stability, while Palmer and Joseph support McBurnie up front. Speaking of McBurnie—he’s the man in form, and when he’s sharp, Hull always look dangerous.
Stat to note: Hull average over 3 goals per game this season. At home, that number is even better. Not bad, eh?
Chris Wilder also has a clean bill of health, so no excuses on that front either. The Blades are likely to go 3-4-2-1.
That means Cooper between the sticks, Tanganga, McGuinness, and Mee at the back, with Ogbene providing width. In midfield, expect Tom Davies and youngster Sydie Peck to feature, while O’Hare and Hamer try to feed Tyrese Campbell up front.
The problem? They’ve been leaky. Conceded in five of their last six matches. That’s nine goals shipped—and away from home, they’ve really struggled.
Hull City (4-2-3-1): Pandur; Coyle, Egan, Hughes, Giles; Hadziahmetovic, Lundstram; Drameh, Palmer, Joseph; McBurnie
Sheffield United (3-4-2-1): Cooper; Tanganga, McGuinness, Mee; Ogbene, Davies, Peck, Burrows; O’Hare, Hamer; Campbell
Now, this is where it gets spicy.
Since 2021, Sheffield United have won four of their last six meetings with Hull. Hull have only taken one win in that time, plus a single draw.
But here’s the twist—their last meeting back in January saw Hull hammer Sheffield United 3-0 at Bramall Lane. Crooks and Jacob got the goals, and it was one of Hull’s best performances of the season. That result will still be fresh in the Blades’ minds.
Also, Sheffield United haven’t lost in their last four away trips to Hull. Bit of a bogey ground for the home fans.
Hull look like the stronger side right now. They score more, they look better organised, and they’ve got home advantage. Sheffield United will scrap, but defensively they’re too easy to get at.
Betting angles worth a look:
Hull are unbeaten in their last two home games. Sheffield United have lost seven of their last 10 overall. That tells its own story.
Hull will keep the ball, push forward, and rely on McBurnie to make the difference. Sheffield United will try to nick something on the break through Campbell, but over 90 minutes Hull’s firepower should shine through.
Match Prediction: Hull to win. Bet with bet365.
If you’re after a correct score, I like Hull 2-1 Sheffield United. The Blades usually score in games like this, but Hull at home should edge it.
Correct Score Prediction: Hull 2-1 Sheffield United. Bet with bet365.
The numbers scream goals here. Hull average 3.4 goals per game, Sheffield United 2.6. Both sides leak chances.
Over/Under Prediction: Over 3.5 Goals. Bet with bet365.
Here’s one I like for Saturday lunchtime:
That’s your Saturday football special—and it fits how I see this game unfolding.

Hull City look stronger right now, especially at home, so they’re the favourites.
I’m going for a 2-1 Hull win, but a draw wouldn’t be a shock.
At the MKM Stadium, Hull’s home ground.
Oli McBurnie for Hull—he’s scoring and buzzing. Tyrese Campbell for Sheffield United—he’s their main threat.
