The Champions League throws us a cracking Tuesday evening tie in Turin. Juventus welcome Borussia Dortmund in a game that feels like it could set the tone for their whole campaign.
Last season Juve stumbled badly. They only managed 20th in the new league phase and were dumped out by PSV in the play-offs. Painful stuff for a club of their size. Dortmund, on the other hand, made it all the way to the quarter-finals after finishing 10th. Two very different stories, right? So, who makes the better start this time? Let’s break it down.
Juventus’ big summer signing Jonathan David is the one everyone’s talking about. The Canadian forward already has goals for fun this season, and his Champions League record with Lille last year was unreal – scoring against Madrid, Atletico, Liverpool, and even Juve themselves. Add him to a front line with Chiesa and Vlahovic, and suddenly Juventus look dangerous again.
In midfield, Locatelli is expected to anchor things, while youngsters like Miretti and Fagioli push for minutes. At the back, Danilo should lead the defence with Bremer alongside him. Szczesny keeps his spot in goal.
Dortmund arrive with their own star man: Serhou Guirassy. He’s already grabbed three Bundesliga goals this term and looks like the perfect spearhead for their attack. Adeyemi and Malen provide the pace out wide, while Brandt will try to dictate in midfield. Defensively, Hummels and Schlotterbeck will need to be at their best against Juve’s new-look attack.

Juventus are desperate to make Allianz Stadium a fortress again, and with Jonathan David leading the line, you back them to score. Dortmund? They don’t exactly come to sit back, and with Guirassy in form, they’ll fancy their chances of nicking one.
Some angles worth looking at:
The only worry for Juve is their defence still looks a bit shaky. Dortmund’s pace on the break could cause them headaches.
Juventus will try to dominate at home. Expect lots of ball progression through Rabiot and Locatelli, and plenty of movement up front. Dortmund, though, are dangerous on the counter, especially if Adeyemi gets space to run.
Over 90 minutes, I think Juve just edge it. Their attacking upgrades should make the difference, and with a packed Allianz behind them, it feels like their night.

I’m leaning towards a 2-0 Juventus win. They’ll be fired up, they’ll get chances, and David looks like the man to finish them. Dortmund might push, but I don’t see them breaking Juve down enough in Turin.

The numbers point to at least a couple of goals. Juventus games at home usually see action, and Dortmund are no strangers to open football. Over 2.5 goals looks safe. If you want something braver, a clean Juventus win (to nil) is tempting given their motivation to start strong.
