The Manchester Derby is back, and this one feels extra spicy. City, usually the smooth starters, have hit a bump. Two defeats before the break have everyone raising eyebrows. United, on the other hand, finally got a win after a rough opening few weeks. Both sets of fans are nervous, and both managers know this one matters big.
So, who takes the bragging rights this time? Let’s break it down.
City’s camp has been a bit of a treatment room lately. Mateo Kovačić and Rayan Cherki are out. Pep’s hoping Phil Foden, Savinho, and Joško Gvardiol are ready after knocks, while Abdukodir Khusanov could also feature. Rodri is the glue in midfield, and expect him to do a lot of the heavy lifting.
United have their own concerns. Lisandro Martínez remains sidelined. Cunha and Mason Mount are touch-and-go after injuries, while Diogo Dalot pulled out of international duty with a niggle. That leaves Ten Hag juggling his back line again.
Man City (4-3-3): Trafford; Stones, Khusanov, Gvardiol, Aït-Nouri; Rodri, Silva, Reijnders; Bobb, Haaland, Marmoush.
Man United (3-4-2-1): Bayındır; Yoro, de Ligt, Shaw; Dalot, Casemiro, Fernandes, Diallo; Mount, Mbeumo; Cunha (if fit).
This one’s got goals written all over it. City can’t seem to keep a clean sheet right now, and United’s defence doesn’t scream reliable either. Add Bruno Fernandes (who’s scored or assisted in four of his last six against City) into the mix, and we’re in for action.
Some betting angles worth a look:
City will dominate possession, push United deep, and try to suffocate them with pressure. United’s plan? Sit tight, frustrate, and then break quickly with Fernandes pulling strings. We’ve seen it work before.
But can you really back against City at the Etihad after two defeats? I can’t. They’ll be stung, and that usually means one thing: a response.
Match Prediction: Man City to win. Bet with bet365.
I’m leaning towards a 2-1 City win. Enough attacking power to outscore United, but don’t be shocked if United sneak one on the counter.
Correct Score Prediction: Man City 2-1 Man United. Bet with bet365.
The numbers point towards goals. City have conceded in four of their last five home league games. United are winless in six away but still manage to find the net. So, over 2.5 goals feels strong. If you want to get bolder, over 3.5 is worth a punt.
Over/Under Prediction: Over 2.5 Goals. Bet with bet365.
Here’s a Manchester Derby combo I like:
That’s your all-action derby builder. It ticks all the boxes for how I see the game going.
Bet Builder Tip: City to Win, BTTS Yes, Bruno Fernandes Goal/Assist, Over 2.5 Goals. Bet with bet365.

City are favourites at home, but United’s derby record lately makes it closer than it looks.
Prediction: City 2-1 United.
City are without Kovacic and Cherki. United miss Martinez, with Mount, Cunha, and Dalot doubtful.
The game is live on Sky Sports Premier League, kicking off at 16:30 on Sunday, September 14th.
