The Champions League is back in Monaco, and what a tie this is. Manchester City—last season’s semi-finalists—make the trip to the tiny but iconic Stade Louis II. Pep Guardiola’s men are desperate to get back to the top of Europe, while Adi Hütter’s Monaco want to remind everyone why they’re such a dangerous side on nights like this.
City are the favourites, no doubt. But history tells us not to rule Monaco out. Remember 2017? Mbappé, Falcao, and that famous upset. Could we get another twist this year?
Monaco:
They’ll be without experienced goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky, who’s sidelined with a knee issue. Aleksandr Golovin and Stanis Idumbo are racing to be fit, and the big question is whether Paul Pogba makes an appearance. If he does, it could give Monaco’s midfield some extra bite.
Manchester City:
City travel without Mateo Kovacic, Rayan Cherki, and Omar Marmoush. On the plus side, John Stones and Rayan Aït-Nouri are expected back, and of course, Erling Haaland is ready to lead the line. That’s a huge boost for Pep’s men.

Both sides look vulnerable at the back, but both have serious attacking threats. Haaland against Monaco’s defence feels like trouble, but Monaco at home always seem to find a way to score.

City are going to dominate the ball. That’s just what they do. But Monaco have pace on the break, and their record at home in Europe isn’t bad at all. City’s away record in the Champions League, though? Pretty poor recently—four straight losses.
I think Monaco get on the scoresheet, but City’s quality up front means they won’t go home empty-handed.
