Northern Ireland take on Germany in a World Cup qualifier that could seriously shake up the group standings. Both teams are level on six points after seven matches, but Germany edge it on goal difference.
So, can Northern Ireland keep their perfect home record alive, or will Germany finally get their act together away from home? Let’s take a look.
Starting with Northern Ireland — confidence is high. That 2-0 win over Slovakia last time out was impressive, and Windsor Park was bouncing. Michael O’Neill’s side looked sharp, compact, and clinical on the counter. That’s exactly how they’ll need to play again here.
Jonny Evans will anchor the defence, most likely alongside Daniel Ballard, while Bailey Peacock-Farrell keeps his place in goal. George Saville and Shea Charles will hold things together in midfield, with Dion Charles up top hoping to continue his scoring run. Expect energy, organisation, and a noisy home crowd doing everything to lift them.
Germany, meanwhile, have the talent but not always the consistency. Julian Nagelsmann’s men smashed Luxembourg 4-0 last week, but that’s been the exception lately rather than the rule. They’ve lost three of their last five in all competitions and still look vulnerable away from home.
The good news for them is that Antonio Rüdiger is fit again, and Manuel Neuer should return in goal. Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz will provide the creativity, with Leroy Sané and Kai Havertz offering the goal threat. On paper, that’s world-class quality — but it hasn’t always clicked when it matters.
Northern Ireland: Peacock-Farrell; Hume, Ballard, Evans, Lewis; Saville, Charles, McCann; Price, Thompson, Charles.
Germany: Neuer; Kimmich, Tah, Rüdiger, Mittelstädt; Gündoğan, Musiala, Wirtz; Sané, Havertz, Füllkrug.
This one could be tighter than most people expect. Germany are heavy favourites, but Northern Ireland at home are no pushovers. They’ve won every home qualifier so far and haven’t conceded at Windsor Park during this campaign.
Still, Germany’s attacking options are frightening. If they find their rhythm early, Northern Ireland could be in for a long night. But if O’Neill’s side stay compact and frustrate them, they’ve got a shot — especially from set-pieces.
Some betting angles worth checking out:
Germany will likely dominate possession and dictate the tempo, but Northern Ireland know exactly how to make life difficult for big sides at Windsor Park. Expect a stubborn, organised defence and quick counters whenever space opens up.
Still, Germany’s individual quality should eventually shine through. Musiala and Wirtz can unlock any backline when they’re on song, and Havertz tends to turn up in qualifiers.
Prediction: Germany to win, but not without a scare.
Match Prediction: Germany to win. Bet with bet365.
You won’t believe this, but I actually think Northern Ireland get on the scoresheet here. They’ve scored in four of their last five home games, and Germany’s defence has looked shaky on the road.
Germany’s attack, though, should have too much in the end. Expect a fast start from the visitors, a fightback from Northern Ireland, and a late goal to seal it.
Correct Score Prediction: Northern Ireland 1-3 Germany. Bet with bet365.
The numbers point towards goals. Northern Ireland have scored in all of their home qualifiers so far, and Germany’s last three matches have all gone over 2.5 goals.
Over 2.5 feels like the safe play, but if you’re chasing a better price, Over 3.5 goals is tempting. Germany’s games often open up after the hour mark — and if Northern Ireland find one early, it could turn into a proper shootout.
Over/Under Prediction: Over 3.5 Goals. Bet with bet365.

That’s your attacking football special — and it fits perfectly with how I see this game playing out.
