The World Cup Qualifiers are rolling on, and Thursday night gives us a tasty clash in Bratislava. Slovakia welcome Germany in a game that feels like two teams heading in very different directions. Slovakia have been struggling to find the net, while Germany are still trying to put Nations League disappointment behind them. So, will it be a routine night for the Germans, or can Slovakia throw a spanner in the works? Let’s take a closer look.
Slovakia head into this one with their confidence a little shaky. A 1-0 defeat to Israel in their last friendly highlighted the same old problem — goals. Francesco Calzona’s men have only managed three goals in their last six games, and that lack of bite has cost them.
In terms of team news, key midfielder Stanislav Lobotka is expected to start and will need to dictate play if Slovakia are to have any chance. Milan Škriniar should marshal the defense, but question marks remain over who leads the line. Róbert Boženík and Tomáš Suslov are the likely candidates, though neither has been prolific in recent outings.
Germany, meanwhile, have their own issues. A 2-0 loss to France in the Nations League exposed defensive gaps, even though they enjoyed plenty of possession and chances. Julian Nagelsmann will want more ruthlessness in front of goal.
Jamal Musiala is fit again and should slot into the attack alongside Kai Havertz and Leroy Sané. Niclas Füllkrug could get the nod as the central striker, while İlkay Gündoğan and Joshua Kimmich are expected to pull the strings in midfield. At the back, Antonio Rüdiger and Jonathan Tah will try to steady a defense that has conceded nine goals in their last six games.
Slovakia: Dúbravka; Pekarík, Škriniar, Vavro, Hancko; Lobotka, Kucka, Duda; Suslov, Boženík, Haraslín
Germany: Ter Stegen; Henrichs, Rüdiger, Tah, Raum; Kimmich, Gündoğan; Sané, Musiala, Havertz; Füllkrug
I think this game has goals in it. Slovakia’s defence isn’t watertight, and Germany always create chances. The question is whether Slovakia can actually put one away.
Germany will dominate the ball, pin Slovakia deep, and create plenty of chances. Slovakia might have one or two counterattacks, but over 90 minutes, it feels like a mismatch. If Slovakia score, it’ll probably be from a set piece.
Match Prediction: Germany to win. Bet with bet365.
I’m leaning towards a solid away win here. Germany’s attack should break Slovakia down eventually, and if they keep things tidy at the back, it could get comfortable.
Correct Score Prediction: Germany 2-0 Slovakia
(But if Germany really click, don’t rule out a 3-0 or even 4-1 scoreline.)
Correct Score Prediction: Germany 2-0 Slovakia. Bet with bet365.
The numbers point towards goals. Germany’s last few games have averaged nearly three per match, while Slovakia have conceded too often.
If you’re chasing value, Over 3.5 goals is worth a look.
Over 2.5 goals feels safe.
Over/Under Prediction: Over 3.5 Goals. Bet with bet365.
Here’s a Slovakia vs Germany combo I like:
That’s your attacking football special. If Germany show up, this could land easily.
Bet Builder Tip: Germany to win, over 2.5 goals, and Jamal Musiala anytime scorer. Bet with bet365.

Germany are heavy favourites and have won every game against Slovakia since 2001.
A 2-0 Germany win looks most realistic, but 3-0 isn’t out of the question.
At Tehelné Pole in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Unlikely. Slovakia have struggled badly in attack, while Germany’s firepower should prove too much.
