Spanish Lottery Set To Resume Next Week

The state-owned Sociedad Estatal Loterias y Apuestas del Estado (SELAE) is planning to resume the Spanish national lotteries, to the delight of millions of Spanish Lottery players and ticket sellers.

At present, the country has been unable to release all its provinces from the restrictions of Phase 0 with, for example, Madrid, Barcelona and Malaga remaining in Phase 0 and unable to open retail units (except supermarkets, pharmacies and newsagents).   Other provinces have moved forward into Phase 1 with regulated access to small retailers and cafes, and the ability to congregate in groups of up to 10 people.

In light of these disparities, SELAE has put forward two options for the resumption of the state lottery.  Firstly, if it is apparent by Saturday 16 May that all remaining provinces will be able to move into Phase 1, then ticket sales across the country will resume on Monday 18 May.  The first lotteries to be drawn next week would be La Primitiva and EuroMillones, with the Bonoloto and El Gordo de la Primitiva being drawn the week after.

However, in the event that Spain continues to have provinces languishing in Phase 0 by this Saturday, the second option put forward is to delay resumption for just a few days further, until Thursday 21 May.   At this point, all lotteries will be reactivated, except Euromillones which will resume on Saturday 23 May, with the draws starting from Monday 25 May. 

In both scenarios, the Loteria Nacional will recommence, with the first draw on 11 June.
