Three wins from three in Serie A, ten goals scored, a Champions League return that produced a creditable draw in Istanbul, and Gian Piero Gasperini already has people whispering about a Scudetto challenge. When you consider they were locked out of European football’s top table for seven years, the fact they are now sat at the summit of Serie A and back rubbing shoulders with the continent’s elite is a proper story. Monday night in Turin is the next chapter, and it is one that sets up very nicely indeed.
Torino are not without hope after turning their fortunes around against Fiorentina last week, but they are walking into this one having conceded in each of their last eight league matches. Ignazio Abate is still finding his feet as a top flight manager, and his side now face arguably the most in form attack in Italy. This one has goals written all over it.
The game gets underway on Monday 14th September 2026 with a 5:30pm kickoff at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino. It is a Serie A fixture and one of the more eye catching games of the early season round.
Roma come in relatively healthy compared to some seasons, but there is a concern in midfield after Manu Kone was forced off during the second half of the Fenerbahce draw and is now a doubt. Lorenzo Pellegrini has returned to training and could push for involvement, though Nicolo Pisilli or Marten de Roon look more likely to step in if Kone does not make it. Donyell Malen has hit the ground running with five goals already, and it is worth noting that he scored on his Serie A debut against Torino back in January. The man has a habit of hurting this particular opponent. The attacking options behind him, whether that is Dybala creating or Soule and Mora pulling strings, give Gasperini so many ways to unlock a defence.
Torino’s form is a different story entirely. They lost to AC Milan and Sassuolo before finding a way to beat Fiorentina, but that comeback win should not paper over the cracks. Abate is still building his ideas into the squad, and the defensive numbers are alarming. Conceding in eight straight league matches is not a blip, it is a pattern, and it is the last thing you want going into a game against Roma right now.
The history here is firmly in Roma’s favour. They have won 14 of the last 19 Serie A meetings between these two sides, which is a remarkable return over any extended run. Even more telling for this specific fixture, Roma have kept clean sheets in six of their last nine trips to the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino. That is a ground where they have historically been very comfortable, which will do nothing for Abate’s preparations.
Torino are not completely without hope when you look at the head to head, but the weight of recent history points firmly in one direction. Roma have the players, the form, the momentum and the record at this venue. Toro will need something special to change that narrative on Monday evening.
This is a fixture that sets up very well for backing Roma to do damage. Even if Gasperini makes changes, Malen looks nailed on to start and he is the most likely player on the pitch to get on the scoresheet first.
Back over 10 corners in this one. Roma press high and attack with real width, which naturally generates corners when teams defend deep to contain them. Torino will spend large portions of the game without the ball and will be forced back, meaning Roma will be winning corners consistently throughout. Toro also had decent attacking moments against Fiorentina, so they will generate a few from their end too.
Over 3.5 cards is worth a look. Torino are going to be under serious pressure for long spells, and when a team is chasing shadows against a top attacking unit, frustration tends to boil over. Expect a few yellow cards as Toro try to disrupt Roma’s rhythm, with Mandragora in particular likely to be in the thick of things in a physical midfield battle.

Roma have everything going for them here. The form, the firepower, the head to head record at this venue, and an opponent who simply cannot stop conceding. Gasperini might rotate given the Champions League commitments, but even a rotated Roma side is a serious proposition for a Torino team that is still finding its feet under a new manager.
Torino showed character to come back against Fiorentina, and Abate will have his side fired up for a home crowd, but character only takes you so far when you are facing an attack this good.
