Who do you think will win?

Burnley needed that. After nine Championship matches without a win under Nicky Hayen, four goals at Vicarage Road on Saturday felt like a dam finally bursting. The Clarets are off the bottom of the table, they have their first clean sheet since March, and now they get to take that momentum into a home fixture under the lights at Turf Moor. This is exactly the kind of game Burnley need to win if they are going to drag themselves into mid-table respectability before the season slips away from them.

Charlton arrive in Lancashire having not won in six, their away form is frankly dire, and Nathan Jones will be well aware that his side cannot afford to keep leaking points on the road. A win for the Addicks would nudge them back into the playoff picture. A loss would start to make their season look worryingly soft. There is plenty on the line here, even if neither side is setting the division alight right now.

Burnley vs Charlton Athletic Match Details

This Championship fixture takes place at Turf Moor, the famous old ground in Burnley that has seen top flight football in recent memory but now finds itself hosting second tier fare as the Clarets attempt to bounce straight back up. It is a proper football ground, atmospheric on a Tuesday night, and Burnley will be looking to use that to their advantage against a Charlton side that has struggled badly away from The Valley this season.

Team News

Hayen has at least one selection headache heading into this one, and Charlton have a fitness concern of their own to manage before the squad sheets go in.

  • Zeki Amdouni came off in the 62nd minute against Watford with what looked like an injury concern. Marcus Edwards came on and scored, so if Amdouni cannot go, Edwards is an obvious candidate to keep his place from the start.
  • Jordan Beyer and Hannibal Mejbri are both sidelined with hamstring injuries and will not feature here.
  • Josh Cullen is edging closer to fitness after a serious knee injury that has kept him out since December 2025, but this game likely comes too soon.
  • For Charlton, Collins Sichenje remains unavailable through injury.
  • William Mannion and Kayne Ramsay both returned to the matchday squad at the weekend, which gives Jones a little more depth to work with.

Predicted Lineups

Hayen will probably keep faith with the system that dismantled Watford, though the fitness of Amdouni is the key question. If the Swiss forward is ruled out, Marcus Edwards slots straight in after his goal off the bench. Reo Hatate looked sharp on Saturday and should continue in midfield alongside Wout Alleyne, with Jacob Bruun Larsen leading the line.

Jones may well name an unchanged side given that Charlton looked solid enough in patches against Bristol City. Karlan Grant scored and should lead the attack again, with Tyreece Campbell the main threat from wide. The back line is expected to stay as it was, with Okonkwo in goal and a four behind him built around Koumetio and Kion Jones in the centre.

Recent Form

Before Saturday, Burnley had drawn four and lost four of their opening eight Championship matches. Not a single win. Not a single clean sheet since March. Hayen had gone 10 competitive matches without tasting victory as Burnley gaffer, which is a brutal run for a new manager trying to build belief in a squad that had just dropped out of the Premier League. The 4-0 win at Watford was therefore enormous, not just for the points but for what it means for confidence and for Hayen’s own standing in the dressing room.

What was encouraging about that performance was the manner of it. Burnley were ruthless in the first half, clinical in front of goal, and defensively disciplined. Bruun Larsen, Amdouni and Hatate all got on the scoresheet before the hour mark, and Edwards wrapped it up late. Their first time scoring three in a match since February, their first clean sheet in months. Four points from two matches either side of the international break is not a revolution, but it is the beginning of something.

Charlton’s form makes for grimmer reading if you are a fan of the Addicks. Six matches without a win now, and the draw with Bristol City continued a pattern that has become all too familiar. They took the lead through Grant, looked comfortable, and then allowed Scott Twine to level from the spot before halftime. Jones’s side have drawn more matches than almost anyone in the division, which tells you they are hard to beat but equally hard to back. The real problem is away from home, where they have picked up just one point since beating West Ham in August. One point. In six away games. That is a shocking return and it is hard to see where the confidence for a positive result at Turf Moor comes from.

Head-to-Head Record

Burnley and Charlton do not meet all that frequently given the time both clubs have spent at different levels of the football pyramid, but when they have crossed paths in the Championship over the years, the fixtures have tended to be tight and low scoring. Burnley’s home record against Charlton is decent, and Turf Moor has historically been a difficult place for the Addicks to come away from with anything. Given Charlton’s current struggles on the road, there is little in the recent history to suggest they will break that pattern tonight.

Key Stats

  • Charlton have conceded seven more goals away from home than at The Valley this season, which is a staggering gap and highlights just how fragile they are on the road.
  • Burnley’s 4-0 win at Watford was only the second time they had taken points away from home this season, suggesting Turf Moor should be a more comfortable environment for them to build on that form.
  • Charlton have the 18th best away record in the Championship, and only three sides have drawn more often overall. Their tendency to share the spoils is the defining feature of their season so far.

Burnley vs Charlton Athletic Betting Tips

The narrative here is fairly clear. Burnley are buzzing from a big result and playing at home. Charlton are winless in six and dreadful on their travels. The instinct is to back the home side, but Charlton’s knack for nicking draws and keeping things tight is worth respecting, and a Burnley side that is still finding its feet under a new manager might not dominate the way the Watford scoreline suggests they can do every week.

Cards Prediction

Charlton will need to be physical to stay in this game, and Burnley’s wide players are quick enough to draw fouls. Expect a feisty affair with four or more cards a reasonable shout. Neither side is particularly clean disciplinarily, and a referee looking to keep control of a scrappy midweek game could be kept busy.

Corners Prediction

Burnley will carry the greater threat and should dominate territory at Turf Moor. Charlton tend to sit and absorb when they are on the road, which forces opponents to probe wide and deliver from out wide. Back over eight corners in this one, with Burnley taking the lion’s share.

Correct Score Prediction

Given Charlton’s capacity to frustrate and Burnley’s inconsistency before last weekend, a 1-1 draw feels like a genuine possibility here. The Clarets will create chances, but Charlton know how to make themselves hard to beat even when the performance is not great, and a point away at Burnley would not be a disaster for Jones’s side.

First Goalscorer Prediction

Jacob Bruun Larsen is worth backing to open the scoring. The Dane got on the scoresheet at Watford, he plays in an advanced position with the licence to get into the box, and he looks full of confidence right now. Burnley will create chances at Turf Moor and Bruun Larsen is the man most likely to be in the right place to take one of them early.

Bet Builder Tip

Market Selection
First Goalscorer Jacob Bruun Larsen
Total Corners Over 8 Corners
Total Cards Over 3 Cards

Bruun Larsen’s current form and Charlton’s tendency to sit deep on the road creates the conditions for a corner heavy, card filled game where the Dane is your most likely early scorer.

Final Match Prediction

Burnley will go into this with belief after what they did to Watford, and rightly so. Turf Moor under the floodlights with a crowd buoyed by Saturday’s result is not an easy place to come and get a result. But Charlton are stubborn, they are organised even when they are not brilliant, and their draw record suggests they know how to hold on when they need to.

My call is a 1-1 draw. Burnley will probably lead at some point, Charlton will respond, and Jones’s side will take a point back to South London having ground out yet another stalemate. Hayen will feel his side deserved more, and he might well be right, but Charlton’s resilience is not to be underestimated even when their away form looks this poor.
