Day 2 of the AITO Hangzhou Open brings a packed schedule of first round action, with ten matches on the card. The headline act is Hungarian fourth seed Fabian Marozsan, who faces Australian qualifier Alex Bolt. There is plenty of interest throughout the draw though, so here are my thoughts on every match taking place today.
These two have not faced each other before, so there is no head to head record to lean on. Wong has been in excellent touch over the past couple of months, picking up wins regularly on the Challenger circuit, though he has struggled to replicate that form when stepping up to tour level. His weapons are clear enough: a big serve and a heavy forehand that can take over points quickly when he is feeling it.
Zhang comes in as a wildcard but this is far from unfamiliar territory for him. He reached the final here in 2024 and has a strong record on home soil in China generally. The problem is that his overall level has dropped noticeably from his peak, and he will need to produce something close to his best to get through a player as hungry as Wong. I think the Hong Kong man edges this one out over three sets.

Zheng leads their head to head one nil after beating Bu in four sets in the second round of the US Open, and he arrives in Hangzhou off the back of a genuinely impressive summer on North American hard courts. Reaching the third round of the US Open and going deep at Cincinnati shows he has the level to compete at this stage of the tour. That said, he has never played a tour match in Asia before, and that is not a small detail.
Bu is local, he knows these conditions, and after losing to Zheng at the US Open he will have every reason to come out fired up here. Playing on home soil in front of a crowd that knows him adds a layer of motivation that is hard to quantify but very real. Zheng is a fine player but his lack of any experience on tour in this part of the world tips the balance slightly in Bu’s favour for me.

This is a first meeting between the two players. Bolt navigated qualifying to get here but it was not entirely smooth going. In the second round he dropped a set to World No. 320 Akira Santillan before recovering to take the third, which is not the sort of performance that inspires much confidence heading into a main draw match. He also has not played at tour level since April, which is a significant gap at this stage of the season.
Marozsan is a completely different proposition. He is ranked considerably higher, has accumulated far more tour level wins this year alone than Bolt has managed across his career, and will be full of confidence coming in as the top seed in action today. If the Hungarian shows up close to his best level there is very little Bolt can do about it. This should be straightforward.
